23.01.2022 ROUND 7 REPORT - FINAL ROUND On Sunday the Wellshot Wanderers took on the undefeated Palmwood Colts in the last round of the regular season. Batting first, the Wanderers found themselves in trouble early, being 5/51 at the 18th over. However, a final stand by Boodle Williams (39) and Minga McLellan (25) saw the Wanderers reach 145 a defendable total in Sunday Warehouse cricket. Despite some sharp bowling, the WWCC were unable to get an early breakthrough with the ball. Howe...ver, some quick wickets fell after the first drinks break leaving Palmwoods 5/87 at the 20th over, giving the WWCC a sniff of victory. Unfortunately, Palmwoods were able to recoup and they grinded their way to the total with 3 wickets to spare. Regardless of the loss, the Wellshot Wanderers have finished the season in 3rd spot on the ladder; therefore, booking a spot in their 3rd consecutive semi-final. As shown below, the boys have wasted no-time in preparing themselves for finals cricket. If you are looking for something to do on Sunday 12th of August, come and cheer on the WWCC as they take on the Hendra Hoops at Marchant Park. This is our year!

19.01.2022 Semi Finals Report Last week the Wanderers arrived at Marchant Park to take on the Hendra Hoops in their third consecutive semi-finals. After losing the last two semis, the WWCC were certain that this was their year to taste premiership glory. Winning the toss and electing to bat, S.McColl and E.Emmott got the Wanderers off to a solid start; however, staying true to their natural game, the Wanderers decided to have a top order collapse. Finding themselves 5/45 in the 14th ove...r, L.McColl and Minga McLellan steadied the WWCC and some fine batting saw Minga reach a much needed 53. Nevertheless, Hendra hit back with some more quick wickets and wrapped the WWCC up for 134. Knowing they would need to strike early to defend their total, Noodle Brown unleashed on Hendra, having them 2/5 in the 3rd over. From here the Wanderers continued to bowl tightly, bowling a season best of only 5 wides truly remarkable. Unfortunately, Hendra were able to dig in and tick over the scoreboard, reaching the target in the 32nd over. Another year and another semi-finals loss could it be that the WWCC are cursed? Regardless, the WWCC enjoyed another season of Sunday Warehouse Cricket and will return bigger and better next year. A big thank-you to those who came and cheered the boys on over the season, and to the fellas who filled in for us when we were short. Wellshot Wanderers Cricket Club
18.01.2022 ROUND 1 RIVALRY After years of slogging it out in C grade, the true talents of the Wanderers have finally been noticed with a promotion to the gruelling B4 North Winter Warehouse Sunday competition. This Sunday marks the first round, and what a way to begin the season with a blockbuster against arch nemeses, Dale's Daredevils Cricket Club. On the 30th of June, the Wanderers and the Devils will break bread at the Golden Duck Gala; however, on Sunday the 29th of April, all-out... war will be waged. With a rivalry that extends back into the mid-19th century (see below), tensions are expected to flare as both clubs play for pride, passion, and tradition. The Wanderers are heading into the round full of confidence. Inside sources report that since hearing of L. McColl’s newly extended run-up, Devil’s founder, Nick Paulsen, has fled to Mt Isa weeks before the opening round, leaving his team in utter disarray. Could this be the moment that the WWCC assert their dominance as the best country cricketers in Warehouse Cricket? Come along to Marchant Park (Oval 1) this Sunday to find out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ On a related note, tickets for the annual Golden Duck Gala are currently on sale and are disappearing fast. Grab your tickets before they sell out by heading to the link below! https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=369601

14.01.2022 Round 3 Report: Crisis on Caxton Street On Saturday night the Wellshot Wanderers headed to Suncorp Stadium to watch some quality Australian rugby, followed by a few settlers at the Caxton Hotel. What was meant to be a night of team bonding took a disastrous turn when all players turned up to cricket with a terrible stomach bug the next day. Whether it was the runny nosed kid on aisle 312, the dirty glasses at the Cacko, the soggy chicken chips at Dirty Harry’s, or that wet pa...tch on the couch at Honeybees, nobody knows. The 10,000 black rats probably didn’t help either. Unfortunately the Wanderers struggled to fire against a much younger, fitter and healthier Toombul Districts Cricket Club, going down by 7 wickets to the keen youngsters. With an average age of 15, Toombul Districts reminded the Wanderers of a simpler time, when we all still had aspirations of playing first grade cricket, having stable jobs, and happy girlfriends. All in all, the Wanderers were outclassed and we tip our hats to the young fellas. We hope for their sake that they resist the call from Caxton Street in years to come. On a lighter note! Ticket sales for the Golden Duck Gala close in less than 2 weeks (15th June). Ask work for an advance, visit your grandparents, steal the collection bowl, do whatever it takes to scrounge up some cash because you do not want to miss out! https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=369601&
14.01.2022 ROUND 2: WANDERERS MAKE MINCE OF PALMDALE MEATS The secret behind our success doesn’t come from determination and hard-work. No, just like in real life, success comes from sucking up to your superiors. Sunday was no different as the boys sat down after a hard day’s work to enjoy a cool beer with their new favourite umpire, Ross. The Wellshot Wanderers took to the field to take on Palmdale Meats XI in the second round of the Warehouse Cricket competition. Despite half the team... suffering grog-horrors, the WWCC shot ahead with the ball, leaving Palmdale Meats 7/65 at first drinks. Some handy batting from Sammy Sundries (37) saw Palmdale recoup, however in the end the Wanderers had them all out for 125. Special mention goes to L. McColl who grabbed 3 wickets, undoubtedly putting the WWCC in a winning position. The WWCC struggled to get going with the bat, and some quick wickets gave Palmdale a glimmer of hope. Enter Noodle Brown, who batted like a man possessed hitting 35 off 24 to bag the win for the Wanderers. The WWCC have also been busy off the field, preparing for what is likely to be the biggest night in the history of cricket. Tickets for the Golden Duck Gala are flying through the covers and the date is fast approaching! Follow the link below to grab yours now. https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=369601&

13.01.2022 ROUND 7 REPORT TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH After yet another washout, the WWCC ventured up to the hinterlands on Sunday to take on top of the table rivals, Palmwood Colts. Being the last round of the regular season, the Wanderers were fired up and tensions were to flare throughout the day. The first of the controversies began when the umpire failed to show up, meaning that the umpiring had to be done by the batting team. This instantly caused tension between the two proud clu...bs; however, it was agreed that players would play like gentleman, and walk if dismissed. This did not sit well with some of the fiercer competitors in the WWCC squad, with Noodle Brown stating that they have more chance of making Alex McKinnon walk out there than me. Batting first, the WWCC were unable to adjust to the altitude and encountered a stock-standard collapse, finding themselves 6/68 at first drinks. Thankfully the tail was able to acclimatise, with some skilled hitting from Jeff Williams (47), Noodle Brown (40*), and George Leftbridge (22) getting the WWCC to 186. However, the WWCC’s innings was brought to an end in spectacular fashion when Gus ‘Minga’ McLellan was given out for handling the ball. With ball in hand, the Wanderers were slow to make a dent in the Colt’s batting line-up; however, a spectacular run-out from Trundle McLellan tipped the game back in reach of the WWCC. Trundle’s efforts in the field did not end there. Chaos erupted when Trundle questionably saved a boundary right in front of the Colt’s crowd. After copping a tirade of verbal abuse from their staunch supporters and questioning from the umpire, Trundle’s response was simply Don’t know sir, didn’t see it. Unfortunately, this may have fired up the Palmwood Colts even further, as they went on to chase down the WWCC target with 3 wickets to spare. Despite the loss, the WWCC have secured a spot in the semi-finals on the 13th of August at Marchant Park. The Wanderers will be taking on the Backfoot Bandits and are calling on all fans to help us reach C grade cricket glory. Win or lose, there will be beers at the end of play.
11.01.2022 SEMI-FINAL REPORT After a successful season, the WWCC took to the pitch on Sunday to take on the Backfoot Bandits in the semi-final of the prestigious Sunday C1 North Winter Warehouse Cricket Competition. Although being favourites, the Wanderers were down some of their key players, giving three players from the Wanderers development squad the chance to taste premiership glory. Continuing his red hot form with the coin, Skipper Basil Emmott won the toss and sent the boys in t...o bat. Unfortunately, the opening pair were unable to hold down the crease and the Wanderers found themselves 2/15 after the 10th over. With a grand-final appearance hanging in the balance, Basil (49) and Richard ‘Dick’ King (37) put their heads down and grinded out a 80 run partnership to steady the ship. However, just when it seemed the Wanderers were back on track, disaster struck again when the middle order collapsed in the space of one over Wanderers 7/118 after the 31st over. Hoping for at least 150 to stay competitive, the WWCC turned to our new recruits to finish strong. A gutsy display of hitting from George Lethbridge (28) and Nick Turnbull (11) saw the Wanderers reach a total of 172; however, a casualty was picked up along the way when Lethbridge copped a mean short ball to the forearm. Our opening bowlers wasted no time with the ball, gunning down three Bandits within the first four overs. However, the Bandits were able to regroup and some smart batting saw them edge closer to the Wanderers’ total. Relief was found in the 29th over when Lethbridge plucked a catch with his one healthy arm; however, unfortunately this was all a little too late as the Bandits went on to win comfortably by six wickets. Once again, the Wanderers have fallen short of taking home a maiden premiership and the loss has hit some harder than most. Wanderer’s keeper, ‘Minga’ McLellan was so shaken by the event that he rejected the comfort of a post-match beer for the comfort of his significant other instead (pictured below). Truly heartbreaking. Despite the loss, it was another enjoyable season and we would like to thank everyone who has followed our progress. A big thankyou to the fellas who have played for us when we needed them most, especially Lethbridge, who later discovered that he had broken his arm! Next season is already looking to be controversial. Reports indicate that Captain Basil is heading back to his outback palace to settle down, which opens the question: who will captain the WWCC next year? Infighting has already begun within the camp about who will take on this prestigious honour, but only time will tell. As some WWCC veterans begin to prepare their campaigns, WATCH THIS SPACE as the fans may be called upon to help make the final decision. Until next season, Wellshot Wanderers Cricket Club
08.01.2022 EASTER MIRACLE After being crucified in last season’s semi-finals, the future of the Wanderers looked in doubt as a handful of senior players returned to God’s Country over the off season. However, when hope was almost lost, the WWCC have risen with a number of new faces joining the ranks. With just over a month until the first round, the Wanderers hit the nets this afternoon to find their form. Although the boys were looking good, one question still remains: Who will captain... the WWCC this season? Rumour has it that Stuart McColl, Nick Brown and Tom McLellan will all be staking their claim at next week’s AGM. LadBrokes currently has Stu the favourite at $1.50, Noodle coming in a close second at $2, and throwing Trundle in as the roughie at $12.50. All official bets can be placed in the comment section below. One thing that is a sure thing is the Golden Duck Gala (previously the WWCC & DDCC Ball). This year we are raising money for Tie Up the Black Dog a charity which aims to lift the veil on mental health issues in rural and remote communities. We are locked in for the 30th of June at Dockside and tickets are on sale now head on over to the event page (link below) to grab yours now! https://www.facebook.com/events/1667826353313226/?notif_t=plan_user_associated¬if_id=1522483631803054 Stay posted.
07.01.2022 WWCC SEASON UPDATE Our social media coordinator has been on leave over the last couple of months; however, the boys in the WWCC have still been grinding away in the B4 North Winter Sunday Warehouse Cricket Competition. The WWCC clinched victories over Newmark and QLD Tuskers in Rounds 4 and 5, respectively. Some strong individual performances were shown from new recruit Ben Leamon who flashed his way to 62 against Newmarket. Round 5 fell directly after the Golden Duck Gala, a...nd the WWCC had practically written themselves off with a loss. However, Noodle Brown and Boodles Williams tore through the Tusker’s line-up, taking 4 wickets a piece, and cricketing veteran Jack McColl stepped up and saved the day with an unbeaten 43. On Sunday, the WWCC took on the Hendra Hoops in the 7th round; however, unfortunately they were unable to get away with the win. Although the Wanderers have most likely booked a spot in the semi-finals, a last round win against the Palmwood Colts would cement an appearance and further the hopes of a maiden premiership.

02.01.2022 WWCC vs. DDCC: THE RECKONING They say that Sir Donald Bradman crafted his technique by hitting buckets of golf balls against a tank with a single cricket stump. Well Alistair Emmott crafted his by flogging pen-fulls of wethers with a metre length of one-inch poly. With this home-grown technique, Albert led the charge to a 9 wicket win over the dreaded Dale’s Daredevils. Winning the toss and electing to bowl, the Wanderers wasted no time getting to work, with L.McColl taking a... catch that had to be seen to be believed to dismiss Devil stalwart, J. Conroy. Despite a few early season sundries, the WWCC’s (medium)pace attack took the Devil’s out one-by-one, bowling them out for 99 in the 28th over. Special mentions go to debutant Ben Leamon and veteran Trundle McLellan for picking up 3 wickets each. The WWCC openers took to the Devils' bowlers, with S. McColl hitting his way to 44, showing the true qualities of a fearless leader. At the other end, Albert held his own and arrived at a pivotal 23no, whilst B. Leamon also impressed the fans with an unbeaten 29no. This saw the WWCC cross the finish line in the 30th over, securing the first round win. All in all it was great day played in surprisingly good spirits, with nothing more than a foul stare between Dale and Trundle. Big Jack McColl also came out of retirement to make his debut for the WWCC, marking the first time an Old Boy has played alongside his sons in Wanderers history. With a bit of break between play, the Wanderers are hoping to take their red hot form into round two against Palmdale Meats XI on the 20th May. Stay tuned.
