22.01.2022 Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and marks the start of 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence. Violence against women is a world-wide pandemic caused by entrenched systems of patriarchy which while it privileges men, it also locks both men and women into rigid roles that are harmful to both. We know that here in Australia and around the world thousands of women continue to live in abusive relationships. Leaving is a ve...ry difficult choice to make. Abuse is not just physical, but also emotional, financial, sexual and spiritual. To mark this day, we bring you Zeinab's story. A story that illustrates the intersection of migration and family violence and the conundrum of leaving a relationship when you have no other supports. https://youtu.be/Eo2w1StwEvs #16days #16daysofactivism #respectis #callitout #16dayscampaign

Wellsprings for Women join NAIDOC week in acknowledging and celebrating the fact that First Nations People have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. ... "This country was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant Nations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. 15.01.2022 A timely reminder of the unpaid work of women, beautifully captured by a boy in year 9 and respectfully placed on the cover of Kerala's 2020-21 Budget. My wife doesn’t do anything, she is just at home a father of a student from Kerala always used to introduce his wife to others like this. But this boy always saw his mother busy with so much housework, so he painted her while doing so much work and titled it ‘My Mother and Mothers in the Neighbourhood’. The school teacher wa...s so amazed to see this painting done by a class 9 student, Anujath Vinayal, from Thrissur, that he sent it to Government office. In this painting he has depicted the unpaid work of women working at home. The painting has been selected as the cover of the Gender Budget document of the government of Kerala for the year 2020-2021. source: https://millhillmissionaries.com/my-mother-and-mothers-in/ #unpaidwork #stayathomemums #unpaidwomenslabour #crediblewomen

03.01.2022 Do you know the history of how the 25th of November was declared International day for Elimination of Violence Against Women? On this day in 1960, sisters Patria, Minerva and Maria Teresa Mirabal, three political activists who actively opposed the cruelty and systematic violence of the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic, were clubbed to death and dumped at the bottom of a cliff by Trujillo’s secret police. The Mirabal Sisters were strong women and political activ...ists. They became symbols of the feminist resistance, and in commemoration of their deaths 25 November was declared International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in 1980. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence begins with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and ends with International Human Rights Day on 10 December highlighting that violence against women is a fundamental violation of human rights. #16DaysOfActivism #SafeRespectedEqual #GenderedViolence #16dayscampaign

01.01.2022 "One in five mums will experience perinatal anxiety and / or depression. We also know that a significant number of non birth parents experience similar rates of mental illness. Left untreated, these illnesses can have long-lasting impacts on parents, partners, baby and the rest of the family. The key to getting help is being able to recognise that something is wrong and being brave enough to ask for help to ‘tell someone who cares’. That might be talking to your partner, c...hild and family health nurse, doctor or PANDA’s National Helpline. Learn more about the signs and symptoms via the link on the panda website.
