19.01.2022 Its devastating when the orchards get hit by hail, some of the fruit then doesn't meet the ''quality standards'' of the retailers making them harder to sell when really they are just as tasty and juicy as the rest.

05.01.2022 Have you seen this fly? It is a Queensland Fruit Fly, aka Qfly, and is considered to be one of the most serious pests of fruit and vegetables here in WA. Adult Qfly are approximately 6-8 mm long, the middle segment is reddish-brown with yellow patches on the sides and back. The end segment is solid dark brown, legs are a bit lighter and the wings are clear. The fly's lay their eggs just below the surface of the skin on the fruit, then once hatched the larvae feeds on the fr...uit before falling to the ground to tunnel into the soil and turn into a pupae, the stage before it turns into a fly and the cycle starts again. The puncture mark where they lay the eggs leads to rotting and makes the fruit inedible for humans. The fruit needs to be disposed of correctly to break the cycle. When spending time at home and in the garden please keep an eye out and report any sighting to DPIRD. Our growers will thank you for it
