16.01.2022 Covid-19 update. We’ve had a few questions relating to the risk of coronavirus in our pets. The following was recently released by the Australian Veterinary Association. On the evening of the 4th of March, Hong Kong’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department issued a statement that a Pomeranian, belonging to SARS-COV-2 positive patient, has repeatedly tested positive for the virus. It is believed that this is a case of human-to-animal (reverse zoonotic) transmissi...on. The Hong Kong authorities detected low levels of the SARS-COV-2, which causes COVID-19, from nasal and oral cavity samples on the 27th of February. They repeated the test on the 28th of February and 2nd of March on the dog's nasal and oral cavity samples. Both subsequent sampling events returned a weak positive for the virus. The Hong Kong authorities believe this finding may indicate the dog has a low-level of infection, and that it is likely to be case of human-to-animal transmission of the virus. The dog has not shown any clinical signs of disease and is currently being held in quarantine. At this stage there is no evidence that dogs can play a role in the spread of this human disease, or that they become sick. During the 2003 SARS outbreak, a small number of cats and dogs tested positive for the virus, but did not demonstrate a role in transmitting the virus to other animals or people. Whilst pet owners should always use good hygiene practices, including hand hygiene before and after handling animals as well as their food, we do not believe there is reason for pet owners to be otherwise concerned. While this is an evolving situation, at this stage, pet owners who may become infected with SARS-COV-2 should take precautionary steps to limit their close contact with their pets and practice appropriate hand hygiene practices before and after handling their pets. At no stage should pet owners take measures that may compromise the welfare of their pets. The primary source of SARS-COV-2 transmission remains human-to-human contact, and the best way to reduce your risk is to practice effective hand hygiene.

16.01.2022 It’s not quite life as we used to know it, but it’s starting to feel a little more like normal. You are still welcome inside the building and in many cases, even in the consult rooms. We are still encouraging social distancing so we make take your Pet into the treatment room if they need restraining by our nurses. And we still ask that just one person visits with each Pet.... And finally, we encourage everyone to download the Covid-safe APP. It will let us know if there is any potential risk of the virus being spread while you are in the hospital.

09.01.2022 Update - Up till this point, our staff have increased their efforts to maintain a safe environment for clients and their fellow staff. We have been attempting to protect the community by increasing our efforts to clean and disinfect the public area of the building. The most important feature of virus control will revolve around SOCIAL ISOLATION. With this in mind, last week we made the changes outlined below, and this week we will actively managing congestion within the waiti...ng room. Please follow the directions of the Vets, Nurses and Reception Staff. 1. We ask that anyone who is unwell for any reason, do not enter the building. Please find someone else to bring your Pet into the building or talk to us about other options. 2. If you recently returned from overseas or interstate, we also ask that you don’t enter the building. Please get someone else to bring your Pet into the building or talk to us about other options. 3. All pets entering the building must be on lead or in a carrier. 4. We will no longer accept cash payments. All payments need to be made by card. 5. We will only allow one person into the building with each patient to limit crowding and to allow for safe social distancing. 6. There will be limited seating available in the waiting room. 7. Puppy classes have been suspended until further notice. 8. Some elective procedures may be rescheduled. We will contact you if this is the case. 9. If you require repeats of ongoing medications or diets, call us on 93871555 or email on [email protected] to arrange them ahead of time. Thank you for your continued support. We will get through this together. https://thespinoff.co.nz//Covid-19-Transmission-graphic-01

09.01.2022 Update At this point we have not encountered any operational issues and are still fully functional. But as you can imagine, we don’t know when that could change. Veterinary Hospitals are classified as an essential service and they will remain open, subject to having available staff and other resources. Capacity may be reduced if we start losing team members though.... So with this in mind, we encourage the following. 1. If you know your Pet is due or overdue for one of their regular health checks, get it done now while we are still fully functional. 2. If your Pet needs on going medication, and you wish to pick it up, email us via [email protected] a day or two prior and we will have it ready for you. 3. If your Pet is on one of our special diets, you can also email ahead and we can put it aside for you. 4. If there is a risk that your Pets may need to be placed into Kennels or Cattery care due to unforeseen circumstances, make sure they are up to date with all the Vaccinations. 5. If you are working from home, then take a SELFIE with you Pet and post it HERE! Thanks for your attention and feel free to SHARE and we’ll see how many SELFIES we can get!!!!

09.01.2022 Some puppy love for your Friday. 10 puppies, all from the one litter. In getting their first Health Check, Vaccination and Microchip.... Then they are off to new homes in 2 weeks. They’re so cute. Little wonder they all got snapped up so quickly.

08.01.2022 We’re still here to care for all the Spots, Fluffs, Bolts, Marleys, Red Dogs, Otis and Milos. But we also want to care for our Community and our Team at the same time. So please follow the directions of our team. Understand that they are doing their best for everybody, in these strange circumstances. ... You may not always be able to be in the room with our staff. We are breaking our teams into Green and Gold teams so that we can manage the number of people in the building. We also want to have a team available to help you, rather than have the entire team go into isolation. So, you may not be able to see all the usual staff. Or you may need to wait a day to see them. Keep phoning ahead if you need to order repeats of drugs or food. But understand that some items are now taking a day or two extra to get to us. Our grandparents taught us that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! They endured! We will get through this. Stay safe.
