18.01.2022 @mark_mcgowan_mp I just have quick update about some of the measures we've put in place for those who recently arrived from Queensland between 2 and 8 January and is required to be tested by Tuesday. If you know anyone who falls into this category - please pass this information on.... Firstly, all COVID clinics have increased staffing and extended their opening hours to service the increased demand from Queensland travellers in the next few days. There are seven COVID Clinics at public hospitals in the metropolitan area, three in regional areas and testing is also available at all WA Country Health Service hospitals. In addition to the State-based clinics, a special arrangement is now in place for Queensland travellers who need to have a COVID test before Tuesday 12 January to access a COVID test at any of the private pathology providers. Many of these centres have extended their opening hours this weekend and for Monday. Please note that Some of these private clinics may require an appointment. For Queensland Travellers no referral is required and testing is free. There are 25 collection centres around the Perth metropolitan area to Mandurah and some regional sites. Some have drive through facilities. The providers offering this service via their collection centres are Australian Clinical Labs, Clinipath, Western Diagnostics see their websites for specific details. People presenting at COVID-19 clinics over the weekend should anticipate delays, be mindful of the heat, take water and wear a hat. Prioritisation in queues will be given to older persons and those with disabilities and we ask people to remain patient and to be respectful of staff and others waiting. Of course, any person who is experiencing symptoms should get tested immediately. For more information on testing and to find a location, please visit www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/covidclinics. 07.01.2022 A great snapshot and explanation of current active COVID19 cases in WA from our Premier Mark McGowan : After a number of weeks with very few new cases of COVID-19 in Western Australia, over the past few days weve seen a significant jump in that number, and now have 29 active cases in our State. However, its important that we keep in mind the status and source of those cases.... The majority of our active cases - 20 - involve crew members from the Al Kuwait. Subsequent to the outbreak on board that ship being uncovered last week, those cases were transferred to hotel quarantine. The remaining nine cases are all overseas travellers, four of whom are Western Australians and the remainder are from interstate. All these cases have been in hotel quarantine since arriving back from overseas. Of the 29 cases, the only cases who have left hotel quarantine are the two who are currently hospitalised. So while our case numbers may be increasing, the facts behind these cases are reassuring. In the past few weeks, the number of COVID-19 tests performed in Western Australia has increased dramatically. 16,000 tests have been done in the last seven days alone. The vast majority of those tests have been on WA locals who havent travelled overseas, and of those, not one has come back positive. And with our hard border in place, thats why we can afford to take such a big step this Saturday with Phase 3 of easing restrictions. Western Australia has done a remarkable job, and every Western Australian has played their part. Thank you.
