23.01.2022 took a little trip away to nature today, the first time properly out since our car accident 3 weeks ago... felt good to be in the fresh air and in a fairy grotto amongst the lily pads, the ferns, the birds and the flowers... smelling the daphne transported me immediately back to my grandmother (gargy’s) garden when I was a little girl...such a distinctive smell that always reminds me of her and it felt like she was with me today. ... . . . #winter #mountains #freshair #recovery #naturehealsthesoul #ancestors #olfactorysystem

20.01.2022 Dear friends and yogis, Please help support this incredible initiative to create a safe yoga space for Black bodies with Black instructors in Philadelphia. Sudan Green, yogi, activist and son of the amazing poet and activist Ursula Rucker (a dear friend of my husband Rick’s) hopes that SpiritsUp! @spiritsup215 happening this week, will bring attention to his larger vision: to raise $250,000 for a bricks-and-mortar space in which to train 10 to 15 local Black yoga instructors ...and use the space as a centre for yoga and possibly even rock-climbing. Each day this week, Spirits Up! will make space for free outdoor yoga, meditation, arts and guest speakers at locations around Philadelphia including the Municipal Building (where the Rizzo statue was removed), Rittenhouse Square, Logan Circle and Vernon Park. Friday’s concluding event at Malcolm X Park will celebrate Black freedom. The locations chosen for Spirits Up! have not been chosen by accident - some of the squares used to be burial grounds for African bodies, slave bodies. There’s an untold number of dead bodies underneath Washington Square and people don’t know that. So to meditate and do yoga there will be a really healing moment, Green says. Logan Circle used to be an execution circle, so who knows what kind of things went on there. Please give, share, support this powerful and much needed initiative! 14.01.2022 Long Afternoon At The Edge Of Little Sister Pond... As for life, I’m humbled, I’m without words... sufficient to say how it has been hard as flint, and soft as a spring pond, both of these and over and over, and long pale afternoons besides, and so many mysteries beautiful as eggs in a nest, still unhatched though warm and watched over by something I have never seen a tree angel, perhaps, or a ghost of holiness. Every day I walk out into the world to be dazzled, then to be reflective. It suffices, it is all comfort along with human love, dog love, water love, little-serpent love, sunburst love, or love for that smallest of birds flying among the scarlet flowers. There is hardly time to think about stopping, and lying down at last to the long afterlife, to the tenderness yet to come, when time will brim over the singular pond, and become forever, and we will pretend to melt away into the leaves. As for death, I can’t wait to be the hummingbird, can you? Mary Oliver

10.01.2022 still finding my own words, searching deep inside my boat of extreme privilege, still sitting with the guilt and shame, but in the words of one who knows, we should act out of honesty and compassion rather than guilt and shame... . and our actions, if sincere and considered, need to take the form of so much more than one Instagram post, a single donation, a box-ticking exercise. ... . if there is any hope of real progress, confronting our internalised racism head-on needs to become a daily practice - the emptying of the boat again and again, the calling out of those who have blindly passed on everything they were taught by the phrases and expressions of their parents and their parents before them... . to sit with our own discomfort and to ask the questions of ourselves (with sincere thanks to @tarabrach ): How have your internalised beliefs, in some way of being superior, that the other - and in this case, the black person - is inferior, how has that made you complicit in perpetuating racism? #blacklivesmatter #accountability #innerwork #wakeup #learn #unlearn #dailypractice
