24.01.2022 I just took the dog for a quick walk and found some lovely gum leaves and Tibouchina flowers. I am not supposed to touch any plants as my plant dermatitis has flared up but I was very careful and didn't touch my face or anywhere else. I just had to have a quick go with the gel plate to finish the day in the studio

21.01.2022 WIP "Ficus microcarpa" Tree Commission: Day 4 Progress: I have now finished the Ficus tree. I sent it to the client and her response was: "THE TREE LOOKS AMAZING WENDY Looks exactly like the one at lakeside."... So relieved Next: Now all that is left is the bird section at the bottom - so I will have some lunch and then proceed to add details to the bird and refine the grass section See more

20.01.2022 WIP: Charlie Girl" Commission: Still very much in the "ugly stage". Slowly working my way around the face. The nose is largely guess work as are the pupils & details of the eye but hopefully she's looking like "Charlie". Long way to go

18.01.2022 My Granddaughter Ria is staying for the weekend so is following along with her own geologic abstract. Here is her progress

17.01.2022 WIP "Ficus microcarpa" Tree Commission: Day 4 Progress: - I added a glaze of Permanent Sap Green to all of the foliage to unify the colour - did a bit more detail to the trunk/roots - added a few branches on the tree - there weren't many as most of them are covered by leaves... Plan: - focus on refining the leaf clusters and defining the final shape of the tree, need to add a few more in various places on the tree. -add highlights to a lot of the tree as it was morning sun lighting up most of the foliage. - finish off the Swamphen. I thought I was nearly finished but that's quite a checklist to work through See more

16.01.2022 WIP "Ficus microcarpa" Tree Commission: Day 2 Progress cont: - added some texture to the branches, ready for the foliage. - added the dark foliage. The tree is facing the sun so not too much dark, mostly mid-tone and green/yellow. tomorrow I will start on the mid-tone greens where the leaf shapes and clusters of leaves will emerge.... To be cont............

14.01.2022 WIP: Charlie Girl Commission: I have blocked in the background using Pan Pastel. I want it to be a soft background with Charlie under the rose bushes. 14.01.2022 WIP "Ficus microcarpa" Tree Commission: Day 2 Progress: - Refined the sky and clouds - darkened the branches that are in shadow due to leaves. 11.01.2022 Still playing with the Gelli Plate on Deli Paper - so addictive. I probably need to start thinking about how I can include some prints in my art work

10.01.2022 I have a commission to paint a Ficus tree as a Christmas gift which I will be starting tomorrow. I am in the process of preparing the Canvas with gesso, deciding on which techniques to use and studying the tree structure. I will use the grid method to sketch the tree and bird onto the canvas. I will also be adding a Swamphen, which can be found wandering the park and in the adjacent pond.I plan to paint a wandering Swamphen in mid stride showing it's large feet. Size: 18" x ...18" Surface: The painting will be on a stretched canvas, 380 Premium Cotton Duck, High Density Weave. Medium: Acrylics, possibly also Acrylic Inks & Neocolor II's. To be cont.... 07.01.2022 After a bit of a slow start today, I managed to get into the studio to start a new abstract piece. Size: 30cm x 30cm Surface: Ampersand Gessobord Medium: Mixed Media Derwent Inktense Bars... ARA acrylics Liquitex Paint Marker To be cont...... See more

07.01.2022 WIP "Ficus microcarpa" Tree Commission: I added a coat of "Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground" to the gesso. The Watercolour Ground allows you to make almost any surface suitable for watercolour painting and will also support collage, pastels, pencils and mixed media work. I have to wait 24-48 hrs for this coat to cure, so I sketched the tree and bird on the canvas using willow charcoal, to let me see the composition. I then rubbed the charcoal tree branches right back, and sprayed the bird with fixative to stop the charcoal bleeding when I do the green wash for the grass. I will do the blue wash for the sky over the branches as there is barely any charcoal there, just enough for a hint of the branches. To be cont.....

07.01.2022 The video is now available to watch on YouTube showing the process of me painting "Island of Blue" https://youtu.be/9M9PiBE_j-4

05.01.2022 WIP: "Charlie Girl" Commission: I have sketched the dog onto paper, then transferred onto the Pastelbord. The photo was quite narrow and didn't include the feet so have guessed as best I can what the feet look like and the length of the legs. I can refine these later, hoping the client has another photo with the feet I will start with the background using Pan Pastels. The client has fond memories of Charlie Girl amongst the Rose bushes so will be using the abstract shapes a...nd colours of the roses to make a soft blurry background. I want the dog to be the main focus. To be cont......

05.01.2022 WIP: Charlie Girl" Commission: I have now blocked in the dog using Pan Pastel.
