09.01.2022 #Repost @visitjapanau with @make_repost There's no chance of skipping leg day when visiting the tomb of Emperor Meiji and neighbouring Fushimi Momoyama Castle! These historic sites are accessible by rail - from Kyoto Station, take the Kintetsu-Kyoto Line to Kintetsu-Tambabashi Station. From there, it is a 20-minute walk to the castle and these somewhat daunting flight of stairs to the tomb!... TOP TIP: the castle is one of the better places in Kyoto to enjoy a pleasant picnic in autumn or spring, away from the crowds. Photo by @ag.lr.88 #VisitJapanAU #Tradition

08.01.2022 Did you know??? Himeji Castle has been the location for numerous Japanese samurai movies and shows over the years, including The Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise. The real wonder though is that although it is 17th century it has never experienced severe damage, from either natural forces or those of man. Wars, fires, and natural disasters have not affected the castle in anyway, which is highly unusual for a structure of this age. It's nickname is the White Heron and was the first landmark in the country to be included on the list of World Heritage sites by UNESCO. Seen it in person? Share your experience in the comments below. Haven't been yet? book by 20th November onto our Japan Uncovered tour and you can fly for free - https://bit.ly/35fhUrq #Himejicastle #travel #Japan
