09.01.2022 WENTWORTH ROAD CLOSED UPDATE - Tuesday 29th October - 10.45am Construction has started on temporary access track at Bunnerungee Bridge... Construction has started on a temporary side track under Bunnerungee Bridge, 65 kilometres north of Wentworth on the Silver City Highway. Wentworth Shire Council is building the access road on behalf of Transport for NSW to reduce the nine-hour detour currently in place around the bridge. The temporary single-lane side track is expected to be completed towards the end of this week, weather permitting, and will be suitable for all vehicles, including trucks, to pass under temporary traffic lights. A specialist bridge team is currently working on detailed design for a permanent fix for Bunnerungee Bridge after a structural issue was identified during a bridge inspection. --------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE (Friday 25th October - 4.40pm) Temporary access plan for closed Bunnerungee Creek Bridge Transport for NSW will build a temporary side track to allow traffic to pass Bunnerungee Creek Bridge, 65 kilometres north of Wentworth on the Silver City Highway. A specialist team is currently attending to a structural issue identified during a routine inspection. While work continues, a single-lane side track suitable for all vehicles, including trucks, to pass under temporary traffic lights will be built. Work on the side track is expected to start early next week and will take up to a week to complete, weather permitting. -------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE (Friday 25th October 9.30am) The Silver City Highway between Broken Hill and Wentworth remains CLOSED. RMS engineers remain onsite, no estimated time on when the road will be reopened is available. -------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE (Thursday 24th October - 5.30pm) Bunnerungee Creek Bridge remains closed as inspections take place Motorists are advised of the continued closure of Bunnerungee Creek Bridge, 65 kilometres north of Wentworth on the Silver City Highway. A structural issue was identified during a routine inspection yesterday, resulting in the closure of the bridge. A specialist team is currently on site and investigating options to fix the structural issue so the bridge and the highway can be reopened. Road users are being detoured from Broken Hill to Wilcannia on the Barrier Highway, onto the Cobb Highway to Hay, then the Sturt Highway to Wentworth while the closure remains in place. Motorists are advised the detour route is through remote areas of NSW with limited phone reception, fuel stops, accommodation options and facilities. To improve heavy vehicle access on the detour route, the bridge over the Murrumbidgee River on the Cobb Highway at South Hay has been temporarily opened up to AB-triple heavy vehicles. The bridge has been reduced to a single lane under traffic lights and reduced speeds to reduce impacts on the structure. Traffic controllers are located at the Silver City Highway intersections with Pomona Road at Wentworth, and Kanandah Road at Broken Hill, directing all traffic and providing information regarding the detour route via the Cobb Highway. Electronic message signs have been installed on the Calder, Sturt, Cobb and Mid Western highways and on the southern side of Abbotsford Bridge to keep road users informed of changed traffic conditions. The community will be kept informed as more information is available. All road users are urged to avoid the area where possible and plan their journeys ahead of time. ----------------------------------------------------- UPDATE (Thursday 24th October - 9.50am) A structural defect has been identified following a routine bridge inspection, resulting in the closure of the bridge until further notice. A specialist bridge team is investigating and assessing the damage while working on a solution. The community will be kept informed as information comes available. Motorists and agencies are advised that fuel and accommodation options are limited on this route and are to consider the need for continuing travel overnight. ---------------------------------------------------- The Silver City Highway between Broken Hill and Wentworth is CLOSED until further notice. Emergency repairs need to be undertaken at Bunnerungie Bridge - 65km north of Wentworth. Live updates & traveller information for NSW roads can be viewed at the RMS Live Traffic NSW website: www.livetraffic.com

05.01.2022 Great tips via NSW Health Don’t worry - all you need is water and a detergent such as a bar of soap, body wash or shampoo. It doesn’t need to be expensive, or ...antibacterial. The key to handwashing is to wash often and wash well, for at least 20 seconds. Find the facts about COVID-19 hygiene at: https://bit.ly/2Uvg8ND

03.01.2022 WENTWORTH ROAD - TEMPORARY SIDE TRACK OPEN A temporary side track has been completed 65 kilometres north of Wentworth on the Silver City Highway, and will ...open to light vehicles tomorrow morning, saving drivers a nine-hour detour. The single-lane side track has been built following the closure of the Bunnerungee Bridge, and will open to light vehicles weighing less than 4.5 tonnes, including caravans and small trucks, at 7am on Thursday 31 October. A stronger road surface is expected to be laid by the weekend to allow access to heavy vehicles, including buses, semi-trailers, B-doubles and road trains. Heavy vehicle drivers continue to be detoured from Broken Hill to Wilcannia on the Barrier Highway, onto the Cobb Highway to Hay, then the Sturt Highway to Wentworth, and are advised to allow an extra nine hours to their journey. Bunnerungee Bridge remains closed with barriers at either end while work is being carried out on the bridge’s foundations. A permanent solution may still be a number of weeks away. Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control including a reduced speed of 40 km/h.
