15.01.2022 Stay safe in the late spring heat over the next two days The following is shared from the NSW Police Residents across New South Wales are urged to monitor weather reports and health advice as the state is expected to experience heatwave conditions in the coming days.... The Bureau of Meteorology warns temperatures are generally expected to increase over the weekend. As the weather heats up, motorists are also reminded it’s not only an offence for children or pets to be left unattended in a vehicle, it can be deadly. Everyone needs to take care in hot weather, but some people are at higher risk of heat illness, especially if they are older, live alone or are socially-isolated. Remember to; Stay well-hydrated Avoid alcohol and hot or sugary drinks Limit your physical activity Try to stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day Wear light, loose-fitting clothing made from natural fibres like cotton Regularly check your forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology on radio, TV, internet or App Get advice from your doctor about whether your medication and/or your medical conditions may affect what you should do if it gets extremely hot Make sure you know who you are going to call (who may need help, and who could provide help to you if needed); make a list of telephone numbers and make sure they are current. If you can, it's a good idea to spend some time in an air-conditioned building. For more information please refer to the Beat the Heat website: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/beattheheat Livestock and pet owners are also being urged to ensure adequate clean water is always available and that shading is provided where possible. Additionally, no animals should be left in confined, unventilated areas. Members of the public should also regularly visit the Rural Fire Service website at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au for updated bush fire warnings and information. For updated weather forecasts and warnings visit www.bom.gov.au.

04.01.2022 Posted to our local MP today, Helen Dalton, our committees petition containing 1007 signatures of concerned locals demanding parliamentary attention to our lack of permanent full time GP's in Wentworth. It is to be presented to parliament by MP Dalton in two weeks.

04.01.2022 WENTWORTH SUPERMARKET JOINS CAMPAIGN FOR A LOCAL DOCTOR If you did grocery shopping in Wentworth yesterday, you may have noticed something unusual about the sup...ermarket staff, they were kitted up in scrubs and medical attire to show their support for a community medical centre. The town has been without a GP since February, but even before then, residents were campaigning to get a community medical centre up and running. President of the Wentworth District Community Medical Centre Glenis Beaumont says a petition is currently being circulated which will be sent to the NSW government to raise awareness of Wentworth's lack of full time doctors and critical health infrastructure. "We need at least 500 signatures for the minster of health and research to respond and we think if we have something closer to 800 or 900 it really demonstrates that the community and surrounds really do consider this is a high priority."

03.01.2022 Great news for Wentworth. The Wentworth District Community Medical Centre group have worked hard over the past 18 months to elevate our concerns regarding inadequate health services for our community. This announcement is evidence that small communities can get their message heard.

03.01.2022 Even with State borders open, Wentworth patients were hitting hard times in accessing health services and continuity of care. Without a local GP clinic since February, Wentworth people have had no choice but to rely on travelling to other locations to find a GP service, or going without a service. But what happens when hospital aftercare is required? Local Barbara Rowe has Leukaemia, and her experience highlights why Wentworth needs full time Doctors available locally to supp...ort the community. People with Leukaemia are fragile and prone to infections that can be life threatening, they are advised to reduce contact with others and avoid those that are unwell. Recently Barbara was hospitalised for treatment of an infection, a critical event for a Leukaemia patient. Hospitals are great for receiving acute treatments, but inherently add risks to immune compromised people. So Barbara preferred not to stay any longer than absolutely necessary. She was discharged but required daily antibiotic top ups for a further 10 days to ensure she received her full treatment. To Barbara and husband Brian’s absolute frustration, the top ups could not be provided by the local nurses at the NSW primary health service, the local hospital couldn’t provide the service without a delay of four days due to the visiting Doctors availability to authorize treatment. Frustrated, bewildered and annoyed, Brian committed to driving Barbara daily to Mildura to receive the antibiotics. Ten trips over ten days, an hours travel, plus waiting time, and administration time. Ten days with critical exposure to others for Barbara in her fragile health condition. Wentworth needs full time Doctors to be available locally to support the community. Local not for profit group, Wentworth District Community Medical Centre Inc. (WDCMC) have been attempting for 12 months to have Wentworth Shire Council agree to supplying one of their soon to be surplus buildings so that WDCMC could refurbish it into a GP clinic and get on with recruiting GPs to Wentworth. WDCMC President Glenis Beaumont said that in the last week WDCMC had approaches from three interested GP practices. Our community group needs a commitment from Wentworth Shire Council that it will redirect one of their surplus buildings to our group for a community owned medical centre to progress discussions with Doctors, to progress fundraising and to ensure that Wentworth amenities such as the hospital, and Nursing Home have a solid future. It’s quite apparent to the whole community that our town’s future relies on these core services and that time is of the essence. Photo Barbara Rowe at home Authorised media release, 7 July 2020.
