22.01.2022 Miss Maddys star student... Madeleine Smith Madeleine played B note beautifully this week! Shes been working very hard to get A,B and G note. Shes learning how to breathe correctly with her diaphragm. Well done Maddie!

21.01.2022 Our Little KeyNotes class learnt all about F on the piano last week! Before playing the song of the week 'Starfish', Emily, Lucas and Malakai did some fun activities to develop their fine motor skills, creativity and letter recognition! They listened to 'Underwater Secrets' by Patrick Doyle. Lucas heard fish swimming under the ocean, Malakai could hear sharks chasing them, and Emily could even hear Ariel the mermaid singing!... They practiced turn taking writing F in the sand They made F shapes with paddlepop sticks They used teamwork to build the giant piano puzzle They learnt where F on the keyboard is They learned how to play 'Starfish' on the keyboard independently They each gave a performance on the acoustic piano, and were wonderful audience members clapping and cheering for their friends when they finished Well done Lucas, Malakai and Emily!

21.01.2022 This week some of our keynotes classes are focusing on learning the black notes on the piano. This group all got to have a go at the "big piano" after learning the piece on the keyboards. The piano has heavier keys so feels a bit different when they first try. Aurora managed the change very well!

20.01.2022 Stepping Up - Daniel McFarlane performed by Nikita, Mikaela and Tiana Nikita and Mikaela have worked hard this term and their aural skills, counting, and playing in time have developed further! At their last lesson, we found 2 minutes in between their lessons to trial a piano trio ensemble piece and this is a snippet of the result. Well done girls, I am so proud of all that you are learning... learning is easier when you are having fun!

20.01.2022 Congratulations to Brendan who is our first gold medal recipient in the Musicathlon 30 Piece Challenge! Phenomenal effort Brendan, keep up the great work! Who will be next?

19.01.2022 The things that make you really appreciate teaching Since she was a tiny kindergartner, Arya has more than just 'played' a new piece of music. She engages with the piece by creating a story, gives the characters personalities and acts out what is happening. Yesterday, it was a happy Mr Frog who got trapped behind a log and became sad, so he jumped over it to find his friends and was happy again. We transferred this from the floor to her piece on the piano, where her intervals of thirds became the log, and her fingers became Mr Frog having to 'jump' over a key to find his friends. Arya you are such a delightful student and sometimes I think it is you teaching me!

18.01.2022 I told Arya today we were going to play 'In the Dark'. "Ohhh I don't think I can do that, I won't be able to see the keys!" She exclaimed. I couldn't stop laughing - thank you for making me laugh every week! Not sure who was prouder today - me of Arya, or her of herself! She is working so well in lessons and is now playing multiple notes in each hand, hands together! Keep it up Arya!

18.01.2022 Teaching a love of music sometimes means clapping with the extra large hands after our classmates play a song together on the piano. Such a fun class today

17.01.2022 Our Glee Club has prepared a special song in time for Halloween. With all that this year has brought, it was a fun excuse to dress up and let loose with what we love doing!

17.01.2022 For anyone wanting a challenge while Glee Club and lessons are postponed, try 'The Cup Game' - bonus points if you can do it while singing your favourite song! The Cup Game is great for developing rhythm, dexterity and hand co-ordination. Best thing is that everyone has one of these 'cup' instruments at home to practice on! https://youtu.be/WJQA1iGjPJk

10.01.2022 Way to go Jed! Here's a little snippet of Jed playing 'The Indian Song' - he has worked hard to play it at a vivace tempo, all from memory, even memorising and singing all of the lyrics! He has mastered G position and even learnt about the G minor scale.

09.01.2022 Miss Maddys star student ... Nathaniel Dunbar Nathaniel has worked so hard over this week to play Beethovens Fur Elise. Its a challenging piece, requiring skills in fast finger movements and tricky Tab reading. ... Congrats Nathaniel

08.01.2022 Miss Kylie's student of the week this week is Keeley. Here's a snippet of her singing Lavender Blue with no accompaniment. Spot on! Learning to sing accapella is a fantastic skill as it helps the ear develop and the body work as a whole to achieve the correct notes without an instrument to ensure the pitch remains true. Great job!

08.01.2022 Emma has been working hard at developing breathing techniques that allow better vocal control and her songs are coming along well. Great job Emma!

07.01.2022 Mikaela finished her framework for Beethoven's 10th Symphony! Every week Mikaela and Nikita come to their piano lesson with their own 'composition of the week' and play it for me to hear, telling me they would like to be famous composers when they grow up. Each week they are experimenting with new rhythms and advancing musical concepts - I can't wait to hear your next compositions!

04.01.2022 The moments you get to share with friends... Our KeyNotes Music classes work to build confidence in learning, and there is always lots of peer encouragement. In the photo below, the students were learning how to draw treble clefs. Sophie asked if hers were 'right'. Henry glanced over and told Sophie "wow, your treble clefs look so good, exactly like the book!"

03.01.2022 Our songwriting workshop was AH-MAZING! An exciting performance by @wildeyedwonder, followed by an inspirational story of her journey as a singer/songwriter. 01.01.2022 DADS... KEEP SCROLLING! If you would like to give something special this Father's Day, download our free "My Dad" Composing Activity Sheet on the student portal here: https://app.mymusicstaff.com/FileDownloader.ashx... I created this activity for students to work on in this week's lesson due to a sparked interest in composition with some piano students. The flu came along meaning lesson cancellations, but I'm sure some students would love to complete the activity at home! If you are unable to access the activity pack, comment below and we will email it to you. Happy composing! Tiana
