21.01.2022 The following is a review of the MMOs CD (released last year) by Bob Margo from the USA. It was published in this months CMSA (Classical Mandolin Society of America) newsletter. Sailing into the Wind, Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra This beautifully produced and engineered CD celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra, one of Australias finest (and longest lived) mandolin orchestras. The current director of the MMO is Werner Ruecker, whose father Jo...sef Ruecker co-founded the ensemble in 1967 and conducted its first concert in 1968. The repertoire on Sailing into the Wind includes pieces that the MMO performed on its 2018 late spring tour of Holland, France, Luxembourg and Germany, which ended up at the Eurofestival Zupfmusik in Bruchsal, Germany in May, where your faithful reviewer had the pleasure of hearing the group twice in person. Four of the works on the recording (Hand-Painted Landscapes by Stephen Lalor, She Who Sails Into the Wind, by Elena Kats-Chernin, Mettams Pool Suite, by Robert Schulz, and Darkness and Light, by Werner Ruecker) are recent commissions/gifts to the orchestra; of these my personal favorites are the pieces by Lalor and (especially) Ruecker, but all are superb additions to the contemporary repertoire. Rueckers formidable skills as an arranger are on full display with two Piazzolla tangos (Oblivionand Ave Maria); for good measure, the recording includes two German chestnuts, Suite No. 6 by Hermann Ambrosius, and Suite No. 2 by Konrad Wlki. In a word, the MMO is incredible on the recording gorgeous sound, deep musicality, and exceptionally tight ensemble. Unless you happen to attend one of their gigs in Australia the simplest way to purchase a copy is through the groups website at www.melbournemandolinorchestra.com.

20.01.2022 The "World Premiere" of my piece "Blankanvas" begins this 2nd half of the Adelaide Fame Festival concert from last Saturday night 11/01/20. It is followed by the magnificent guitar playing of Duncan Gardner in "Spanish Impressions" and another "World Premiere" of Sonata Antique by 18 year old Adelaide composer Marcus Kha.

16.01.2022 The PMO will be giving a concert on Saturday, February 15, 2020, 7:30 PM, at Sandywoods Center for the Arts, 43 Muse Way, Tiverton RI. The program is almost en...tirely new repertoire for the PMO, and will feature works by Amadeo Amadei, Victor Kioulaphides, Giuseppe Manente, Sbastien Paci, Astor Piazzolla, Werner Ruecker, Bart Verstaeten, and Konrad Wlki. The works by Ruecker ("Darkness and Light" and Verstaeten (Persephone) are US premieres. Tickets are $15 at the door. See more
15.01.2022 Yesterday was my first concert as conductor of the Sydney Mandolin Orchestra. It was a great concert with a fantastic and appreciative audience. Thank you SMO for all your hard work culminating in such a wonderful afternoon of music!!!!

I composed D & L in 2017 as a tribute to those that have ...struggled so hard with life that they paid the ultimate sacrifice & chose not to go on. Thank you to Mark M. 06.01.2022 This week at the Classical Mandolin Society of America (CMSA) annual convention Alex Timmerman (Netherlands) and myself were nominated the join the CMSA Honorary Board of Directors. This program honors individuals who have made substantial contributions to classical mandolin (and guitar) outside of North America since the founding of CMSA in the late 1980s. It is an honorary advisory position. What a privilege it was to be appointed. Congratulations also to my fellow appointee Alex Timmerman.
