25.01.2022 Embarrassed but so grateful, was the overwhelming response from 200 Werribee Mercy Hospital (WMH) frontline staff who, in recent days, have been presented with corporate care packs following a Melbourne Gold FM radio promotion. A huge thank you to Coles for dropping off 200 care bags at the WMH loading dock. The packs contained shampoos, deodorants, face and hand creams, bags of lollies, fruit and nut bars and other treats. Our frontline healthcare workers are generally the providers of care. But in recent days, it has been nice to see the carers being shown some tangible gratitude. Thanks again to all concerned!

21.01.2022 Mercy Health frontline staff in health services and aged care, who have battled the coronavirus pandemic, are a focus of tribute videos, produced by Catholic Health Australia. Some of the material was filmed at Werribee Mercy Hospital and Mercy Place East Melbourne. The filming has prompted Mercy Health Group Chief Executive Stephen Cornelissen to reveal that Werribee Mercy Hospital, located in one of Victoria’s most serious COVID-19 hotspots, would have been brought to its knees, other than for the hospital staff’s heroic efforts.

19.01.2022 Congratulations go out to the Werribee Mercy Hospitals Paediatrics Ward and its dedicated staff, who have just completed 12 months of service. While any plans for a party and birthday cake have been put to one side due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we know the childrens ward and its team of skilled practitioners have been well received by the mums and families of the Wyndham community. Clinicial Director of WMH Paediatrics and the Special Care Nursery Dr Kathy McMahon says w...hat shes enjoyed most is seeing children from local families having access to excellent paediatric care not that far from their homes. Seeing bright bubbly smiles on the faces of local kids when they are better, say Dr McMahon, makes it all worthwhile. While there have been a few initial challenges informing the community that paediatrics was open for business, weve no doubt that the ward will grow from strength to strength, she said. 12.01.2022 During times of trouble, a little thanks really does go a long way. Last week, Werribee Mercy Hospital staff received baskets of goods filled with things that would make their hospital shifts that bit easier. Pacific Werribee generously donated the goods through the Mercy Health Foundation, and the gifts certainly lifted spirits. The hampers included toasted sandwich makers, coffee machines, toiletries and some yummy treats. For your kindness during these tough times, Werribee Mercy Hospital staff say a BIG thank you to Pacific Werribee.

12.01.2022 Werribee Mercy Hospital's Emergency Department, which stared COVID-19 in the face throughout the year, is the first recipient of the Lalor Hero Award for 2020, an award that recognises local heroes' service and contribution to the Lalor electorate community. Accepting the award, Emergency Department Nurse Unit Manager Lynn O'Neil said that while the award is a tremendous honour, every Mercy Health staff member deserves the recognition, not just those who work within ED. "We s...tepped up to the plate, and we know that, but equally we are proud and humbled by the response and gratitude we received from the community," she said. Presenting the award, Federal Member for Lalor Joanne Ryan MP said Werribee Mercy Hospital has built a great rapport with Melbourne's West and is a worthy recipient. "Given the year we've endured, and the significance of the hospital's role, it was not difficult to choose the Emergency Department as the award's first recipient," Ms Ryan said.

10.01.2022 The voices of Melbourne’s West have been heard with the announcement that Werribee Mercy Hospital has been funded in the State Budget for the planning phase of a much-needed expansion. With the majority of Victoria’s population growth in the next five years forecast to be in Melbourne’s West, we are hopeful the plans lead to an expansion funding announcement before the next State election in 2022 to accommodate the communities' growing health needs. We are grateful that Trea...surer Tim Pallas has again acknowledged the needs of our community, Mercy Health Group CEO Adjunct Professor Stephen Cornelissen says. This is the first step towards urgently turning plans into a reality. Government, like us, will be keen to turn the expansion’s first sod at Werribee Mercy Hospital, so that Melbourne’s West will have local access to a more comprehensive range of specialist services that they both need and deserve. 08.01.2022 Exactly six months after its opening, Werribee Mercy Hospital Paediatric Ward is celebrating the special children who have received care in the hospitals newest ward. Clinical Director of Paediatrics Dr Kathryn McMahon remembers fondly the wards very first patient, local baby Aurora Phillips, whose bronchiolitis was treated by the hospitals specialist paediatric team. Baby Aurora was special for more than one reason, Dr McMahon says. Not only was she our first paediatr...ic patient six months ago, her grandmother also used to be a nurse here at the hospital. Were thrilled that we can offer this dedicated paediatric service to our community. That Auroras family was able to confidently turn up to her local hospital to receive specialist paediatric care is great, and something that the Wyndham community has been waiting for for some time." As further reassurance, Auroras mum, Bronwen, could stay with her baby throughout her stay at the hospital. Our Paediatrics Ward has 12 beds, with accommodation available for parents to stay, Dr McMahon says. We are well equipped with senior paediatricians, junior medical staff and paediatric nurses working around the clock on our ward, ensuring that our local children are receiving the very best paediatric care right on their doorsteps. Most of the hospitals paediatrics presentations to date have been for conditions including asthma, bronchiolitis, gastroenteritis and poor weight gain in babies but the team has also cared for children requiring surgery for a range of issues including appendicitis and torsion of testicles.

08.01.2022 When I think we are done we seem to be beginning again. Founder of the Sisters of Mercy, Catherine McAuley Today, Mercy Health celebrates Mercy Day, when Mercy ministries come together to celebrate the realisation of Catherine McAuley’s vision to build the House of Mercy at Baggot Street, Dublin in 1827. ... This year, Mercy Day is of particular significance as we also celebrate 100 years of Mercy healthcare in Victoria. When the Sisters of Mercy first entered the field of healthcare in Victoria it was in the wake of World War I and amid the deadly influenza epidemic of 1919. Spurred by the experience and with a growing Melbourne in need of better health services, the Sisters opened St Benedict’s Hospital in Malvern in 1920. As we face the challenges of coronavirus, Mercy Health has remained motivated by our mission to bring God’s mercy to those in need. Just as the Sisters of Mercy provided much needed care in 1919, Mercy Health continues to respond to the needs of our own time, inspired by the courage and determination of those who began our healthcare journey a century ago and the vision of Catherine McAuley before them. 07.01.2022 Baby Kylers parents had no plans for their firstborn son to support any particular AFL team ahead of his birth at Werribee Mercy Hospital last week. But by the time the baby boy went home, he was a Geelong Cats fan through and through. Four Geelong players paid a visit to the hospitals maternity ward as part of the clubs community partnership program, and gave the little newborn a Cats beanie and a cuddle. The players then presented to Werribee Mercy Hospital staff about workplace challenges, including shift work, change management and resilience. They also presented baby Kyler with his first win as a Cats supporter on Sunday when they beat Sydney by 27 points at the SCG.
