25.01.2022 Apologies to all for going offline during the Local History Talk today. We apparently had some gremlins in the system between us and the Wyndham City Libraries network. Such a shame as presenter and audience were all wired up and working well when a cut-off happened. ... We believe we will be able to repeat the talk in a fortnight's time. Stay tuned! See more

24.01.2022 Loved seeing these Crimson Rosellas today at Anakie Gorge. Just perfect viewing for the shortest days of the year!

24.01.2022 Big things are happening to waste and recycling in Victoria. The government has issued an options paper on Waste and Recycling Legislation and Governance proposing major reforms. We encourage you to make a submission (due 9 October) and here is a guide for key points you could make. Also our petition on stopping Coke and Lion from taking over the state's container refund scheme is going gangbusters - over 35,000 signatories so far! Thank you for your help and please keep shar...ing. Regards, Jeff - Boomerang Alliance http://www.boomerangalliance.org.au/

24.01.2022 Inspected conditions on the Werribee South beach yesterday. Beach clean but gritty from dredging. Plastics survey along tide-line showed moderate level of tide-washed-in-load of litter. Westpac helicopter passed overhead inspecting water. Lifesavers reported no incidents of concern to swimmers.

23.01.2022 The Werribee Riverkeeper will be part of the first of these workshops being led by local photographer Imran Kashem from Westend Photography, supporting the cross over with arts and the environment in this very special 4-hour workshop. Follow the link for all details. https://www.wyndhamtogether.com.au//neighbourh/2021-02-20/

23.01.2022 Perhaps Wyndham can do a local one for public events while we wait for Victoria to catch up?

18.01.2022 Lovely trip to Anakie Gorge Brisbane Ranges, revealed some nice birds...

18.01.2022 On a local walk this morning and heard a lot of small birds chattering away. Looked up and saw what we thought was a Collared Sparrowhawk. Quickly came back with camera, and found the bird again by following the noise! No wonder the local birds were complaining, this bird is a powerful predator of small birds.

18.01.2022 Werribee River's two major reservoirs, Melton and Pyke's Creek are full due to rains over the winter and spring. Input from overnight rains may make a difference in the next few days. Blackwood on the Lerderderg River received 40+mm in last day or so. That will help fill Merrimu reservoir which is at 39% full. Ballan had 40+mm also so Werribee River may rise slightly past Melton. Latest Melton reservoir graph shows:

17.01.2022 Great news this morning with the easing of restrictions. Our On Waterways at Bungey’s Hole will go ahead!! First in gets a go, for approximately 20 minutes depending on demand, this Saturday 9am - 12noon. We ask for a donation and free for members. Sign-in and covid safety conditions apply.

17.01.2022 Our Nature in Wyndham Photo Competition 2020 is now closed. We hope to share these pictures with you - they are a wonderful testament to your appreciation and enjoyment of our local natural surrounds.

14.01.2022 The Werribee River enviro flow is progressing well, here seen at Cottrell St Werribee Sun 20 2020. Melbourne Water Green Living in Wyndham

13.01.2022 Pleased to see the warm weather and eased playground restrictions, had people visit the beautiful new Wyndham Park in Werribee this weekend. Local shops are loving it, and the bins are overflowing. Perhaps we need a review of pick up routines and a policy of 'no single use plastics!'

12.01.2022 The latest environmental flow into the Werribee River has now concluded but occurred in two parts: 1. Approximately 340 ML was released from Merrimu Reservoir into Pyrites Creek from 16-19 September (Spring High Flow) 2. Approximately 820 ML was released from Melton Reservoir into Lower Werribee River from 18-22 September (Spring Fresh)... It was the first time that either of these higher flow releases have been delivered since 2017, made possible by a greater volume of water held in the Werribee Environmental Water Account following above-average 2020 rainfall. For details contact: [email protected]

12.01.2022 How about joining this?

12.01.2022 This mulch, being spread upstream of Cottrell St Werribee, by workers in the 'Working for Victoria' pandemic initiative, is the result of our collaboration with the Cherry St and Werribee St North rail crossing removal projects, in Werribee. Thanks to Wyndham City, 5000 plants will be put in in during the next week or so, adding to the biodiversity values of the riparian strip and enhancing beautification along the river. 11.01.2022 For World Rivers Day, we have two lovely shots taken today, of the Werribee River at Werribee River Park Cocoroc.

11.01.2022 It is amazing what you find in waterways. This is a flashback to a successful clean-up along the Werribee River near Guya Court. Just a few kayaks and few dozen people can really make a difference. 07.01.2022 Some things don’t go to plan. A bit like the whole of 2020. Since midway this year we have encountered a problem with our Love Our Street 3030 account, and we no longer have a Manager of that account. Our only way to resolve that is to start again! Facebook doesn’t make it easy to reinstate a new Manager, so we are asking you all to LIKE our new Page. 07.01.2022 This is the last day of the current three day flow. #environmental

07.01.2022 This female Collared Sparrowhawk was seen in a WRA members habitat garden this evening. Not so lucky for the New Holland Honeyeater at its feet!

06.01.2022 We are pleased to advise Melbourne Water, working with Victorian Environmental Water Holder and Southern Rural Water, has completed the current Summer Fresh releases for Pyrites Creek and the Lower Werribee River using approximately 160 ML of environmental water. Pyrites Creek saw peak flows of 80 ML/d from the 16-17 December (as measured at Bacchus Mash), while Lower Werribee River saw flows greater than 80 ML/d between 17-18 December (as measured at Cottrell St Ford).

05.01.2022 Good to hear these pobblebonk frogs at Riverwalk estate this morning..

04.01.2022 These photos came in this week, part of our Nature in Wyndham Photo Competition 2020, and we just had to share them. Now is the perfect time to check out the water babes... and remember - do not feed the wildlife.

02.01.2022 Access to parks and open space in your neighbourhood.... Details on how to contribute can be found at www.parliament.vic.gov.au/eii Rapid population growth in Melbourne and key regional centres has transformed our state, with benefits as well as challenges. The preservation of our state’s environmental infrastructure is one of those challenges. While COVID-19 has recently led to a slowing of population growth, it has also highlighted the importance of people being able to acc...ess parks and open space in their local neighbourhoods. This inquiry is seeking community input on what can be done to enhance the amenity of our suburbs and key regional centres, considering both recent and future development across our state.
