09.01.2022 In the last few months, life has been chaotic for most of us with this COVID-19. Last Friday, my husband felt a bit funny in his throat and decided to go to the... doctor to get tested due to his recent overseas travel. The doctor advised us to stay at home until the result is available and close my day care bussiness immediately. According to the current regulation, you don’t have to close it but I advise you to Doctor said. We decided to do it anyway, regulation or not. The Negative results came later than expected, which resulted in more money loss for both of us. If I could turn back time, would I do the same thing for something I don’t have to? Absolutely yes. Why did we take extreme caution? The answer is simple because we didn’t want to spread it to those who will be really sick if they get it. In the last one month, both my husband and I experienced the sudden passing of our grandparents. We saw the impact it had when someone suddenly passed away without you having the opportunity to say goodbye to them. So much sadness, tears and confusion in both of our families. I would hate to think that we were part of the infectious chain of this virus to someone’s vulnerable loved ones. More than us getting sick (which we both honestly are not scared of it because we both are in the low risk group), the last thing we want is someone already weak getting sick from us. Upon searching for information about this virus, I see so much arguments and conflicting ways of different governments on how to deal with it. My university professor’s words came back to me: Search for credible information sources, not the news. In this climate, the most easy to understand and credible source is from WHO. Here’s what they say: How are COVID-19 and influenza viruses similar? Firstly, COVID-19 and influenza viruses have a similar disease presentation. That is, they both cause respiratory disease, which presents as a wide range of illness from a symptomatic or mild through to severe disease and death. How are COVID-19 and influenza viruses different? The reproductive number the number of secondary infections generated from one infected individual is understood to be between 2 and 2.5 for COVID-19 virus, higher than for influenza. While the range of symptoms for the two viruses is similar, the fraction with severe disease appears to be different. For COVID-19, data to date suggest that 80% of infections are mild or asymptomatic, 15% are severe infection, requiring oxygen and 5% are critical infections, requiring ventilation. These fractions of severe and critical infection would be higher than what is observed for influenza infection. Those most at risk for severe influenza infection are children, pregnant women, elderly, those with underlying chronic medical conditions and those who are immunosuppressed. For COVID-19, our current understanding is that older age and underlying conditions increase the risk for severe infection. Mortality for COVID-19 appears higher than for influenza, especially seasonal influenza. While the true mortality of COVID-19 will take some time to fully understand, the data we have so far indicate that the crude mortality ratio (the number of reported deaths divided by the reported cases) is between 3-4%, the infection mortality rate (the number of reported deaths divided by the number of infections) will be lower. For seasonal influenza, mortality is usually well below 0.1%. However, mortality is to a large extent determined by access to and quality of health care. Source: https://www.who.int//situ/20200306-sitrep-46-covid-19.pdf You see, for a virus that is very similar to seasonal influenza, COVID-19 is more contagious with a higher mortality rate (3-4% vs below 0.1% for crude mortality ratio), especially for older age and underlying conditions groups. Please help keep it away from these vulnerable groups and share this information for better understanding of the virus. I'm sure with our act of kindness, we all can help to make it dissapear soon.
06.01.2022 On average, adults get two to four colds a year and children may get five to 10 per year, but state health departments have warned respiratory illnesses such as rhinovirus are more prevalent than this time last year.
01.01.2022 Hi everyone, WerriBees family day care would like to wish you all a very Happy Holiday season and a peaceful and prosperous New Year. Thank you to all my parents for your support for this year and we will have new vacancies available starting next year!
01.01.2022 Hello everyone, I have officially started my own family day care on Treeve Parkway Harpley. It’s called WerriBees family day care, and I have to admit I had fun setting it up with all the educational toys, books and decorations that you see in the pictures (yes, I took those pictures myself my other business is in photography). To cut a long story short I was working as a food safety trainer in the industry for a while before realising that I prefer working with littl...e people and decided to finish my certification in Early childhood education and care, had my placement and experience in both day care center and family day care settings, registered and regulated by Pink Lotus scheme and now I’m ready to start. Like long day care, parents still receive their childcare rebate and the childcare benefit from the government, plus the advantage of having your child(ren) settle in a small group of children and just one educator to know them well me. I offer long day care service for 0-5 years old and School holiday care for school aged kids and I promise I will take interesting, not blurry pictures of your kid(s) in my daily report to you See more
