22.01.2022 A very big happy Father’s Day to all of the dads, grandads and father figures in our Werrington family. Thank you for all that you do for our athletes not only during the athletics season but all year round. We think you’re fab. ... This clip of Derek Redmond and his dad at the 1992 Barcelona olympics makes me tear up everyone time I watch it. Derek’s hamstring snapped during his 400m event. What happened next brought the stadium to its feet. Have a great day everyone, Sharon https://youtu.be/t2G8KVzTwfw

19.01.2022 **ATHLETICS IS BACK TOMORROW** We hope you’ve all enjoyed a well earned break. We are back tomorrow, week B program. ... We have barely any committee members available to help, and many of our usual non-committee members are also still on holidays, so if you are coming tomorrow please lend a hand either setting up or packing away or age managing if there is a gap. A reminder re canteen: tomorrow there’ll be no EFTPOS available and no BBQ. Brenda and Mark will be back next week. Just a reminder, as per government regulations re Covid-19, anyone who has visited Greater Brisbane since January 2nd must isolate until 7pm January 11th, and obviously cannot attend. See you in the morning

17.01.2022 **COVID REGULATION UPDATE** We are getting a number of messages regarding the NSW government announcement yesterday that it will be lifting the previous restriction of 1 parent per family for community sports. Unfortunately, the requirement that we must not exceed 500 people at community sports venues remains in place and as such, we still have to continue our strict limit to the number of parents/guardians we can have at Harold Corr. ... Our restrictions remain at only 1 parent/guardian per registered athlete and no unregistered siblings. We operate under the guidelines that Little Athletics NSW give us. At this point in time, their guidelines have not changed from those that were given to us a month ago. When they allow us to relax rules/mandates etc we will do so. We are cautiously optimistic that the new changes are a move in the right direction but ask that everyone respect the regulations that remain until advised otherwise. This restriction is a part of our COVID-19 Safety Plan which enabled us to operate this season. Thank you for your support and understanding, see you at the track!

16.01.2022 **state championships** Hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas. The Youth State Championships Qualification Standards (u13-17) are now online... Click here: https://bit.ly/2WELKQQ to see the qualification process
16.01.2022 Week B today. It’s going to be hot so we’ll try to get in and out as quick as we can. Please bring water and a hat and be wearing sunscreen. A reminder that it’s just one carer or parent to be at the track per registered athlete and only parent helpers on the inside of the track See you soon!
15.01.2022 Spots are filling fast for state multi. Get your entries in soon if you want to come. Always a great weekend. For those coming - leave your Saturday night free for our annual team dinner!
15.01.2022 Last call for uniform orders. There won’t be another order going in this season, so please message us tonight if you need anything...
15.01.2022 *canteen help please* Our usual lovey canteen people are tied up in soccer canteen until 10 October. Is any one able to run the canteen, on a limited basis (chips, lollies and drinks) until 10 October?
15.01.2022 We have a new toy in our house... As many of you know, caps for the starting guns are not being made any more so we’ve been having to use the little red starting whistle. Our new equipment has finally just been delivered and will be put to good use on the weekend. Here’s a little snippet of what it sounds like for those who might want to give their kids a heads up
14.01.2022 ***Age Managers*** Not long now until the start of the season. Competition can’t run each week without our age managers. ... Each age group requires an age manager to take them to each event and to supervise them while at that event. Depending on numbers, some age groups will be combined. For field events such as shot put, discus, long jump etc, the age manager and other parent helpers are required to run the event including measuring and recording events. For track (ie the running) events, age managers just need to arrange the kids into their heats and get them on the track. Being an age manager or parent helper is the best way to be involved in athletics and get up close to the action. All other parents, for safety reasons, must watch the events from outside of the track. As an age manager, you’re not alone! The guidelines for each event are on the inside of the age manager folder, and committee members can answer any questions. We also have senior athletes to teach the younger kids how to do any new events. Please get involved. Your kids will love it. Please comment below if you’d like to be an age manager this year and which age. If you wish to be a parent helper, no need to comment, just speak with your age manager the first week of competition.
14.01.2022 Happy birthday to our Club President, Grant, who spends hours of his time each week to ensure our kids can compete each week. Grant grew up as a little athlete himself...
13.01.2022 PSA - Some soil works/testing is being undertaken at Harold Corr today and tomorrow in preparation for the construction of the new track. If anyone is/was considering training at the track today or tomorrow, could you please reschedule.
11.01.2022 Competition starts on Saturday! A few things to note... We are currently still under our cap (although not by much). For those who haven’t registered yet, it’s not to late - the link is below: https://memberdesq.sportstg.com/index.cfm... If you have previously registered for little athletics (at any club) you will need to register before Saturday to compete. If you have never competed before and would like to trial before you register, please arrive by 8am to register with us as a trialist for 2 weeks. Trialists will not have results recorded (or points awarded) until they register. Registrations of trialists can’t be guaranteed, and will be dependent upon whether we remain under the cap. For those who have registered but not picked up their registration pack, please arrive at 8am to collect it. For those who have ordered a uniform, we are hoping to have them available for pick up the second week of competition but will confirm as soon as we know. Those who have a uniform already, the photo below shows the correct placing of the patches. Our sewer will be on hand this Saturday, arriving at 7.30am for a 7.45am start, sewing all 3 patches on for $10. You can also contact her directly if you wish to have them sewn beforehand. She will also attend on 17 October. Details are on the photo below. For those who don’t have a uniform yet, please just wear comfortable clothes and joggers. Tiny tots do not need their numbers (because they don’t get results recorded). Other age groups please either pin your number to your shirt or write your number on your hand in texta so we can record results. We will be very low on committee members for the first few weeks due to winter sports running over. It means that we will need to rely on parents to step up and help out. Please let us know if you can help. In particular, we’ll need help setting up from 630am as well as a starter and someone to help on the computers. Please let us know if you can help. thank you to those parents who have volunteered to age manage. We still need a few more. Please look out for a post tomorrow regarding the age groups where there is a gap and for a date re an information session - likely to be either this Wednesday or Thursday evening. COVID reminders... We can have a maximum of 500 people at the grounds. This means we can only allow 1 parent per athlete at the ground. Unfortunately, unregistered siblings, grandparents or any other friends and family can not attend for the immediate future. We hope these restrictions will ease a little at some stage during the season. Once athletes have finished competing, they need to leave the ground with their parent as soon as possible. Let us know if you have any questions! We are so excited to see so many new and old names registered and can’t wait to kick off the season.
10.01.2022 Today’s results are now available to view Congratulations to our record breakers Braxton W U/6 long jump ... Kaitlin R U/12 1500m Walk Josh R U/14 3000m Ariana L U/17 Discus Well done everyone, have a great week
10.01.2022 *COVID protocols* Competition day is just around the corner!!! You will have been sent an email from Little Athletics NSW with the information below. ... Please, please do the right thing. We do not want to be that club where there’s an outbreak. We all have a responsibility to do the right thing and keep each other safe. Please familiarise yourself with the protocols in the photo below. In addition: Little Athletics NSW recommends all families download the COVID Safe App Every person who attends the track must register via the QR code at the entry point to the track Only one parent/carer per registered athlete is allowed to attend the track. This means strictly no other family members, friends, unregistered siblings can attend. Ensure your little athlete has their own drink bottle There will be no baskets for age groups this year so that we can avoid mixing of bottles etc. Athletes will need to carry their own bottles and/or bags There will be no standing behind baskets in the middle of the field for announcements. Athletes will go straight to their first event at 825am for an 830 start. This means athletes will need to know what their first event is. The program will be posted shortly. Please save it to your phone! Athletes will be required to sanitize their hands at each field event. The field equipment will be cleaned before and after each event. As best as kids can, athletes will distance while they wait their turns. This means no high fiving, handshaking etc Only the age manager will record in the folder. No adult will be permitted inside the fence of the track unless they are helping or officiating at an event Once athletes have competed, we ask that they leave as soon as practical in order to avoid any congregating after competition Most importantly, if you feel unwell please stay home! Things look very different to what we are used to. Please be patient and kind and know that everyone is doing their best in a difficult situation. As always, any questions, please reach out to us. See you tomorrow!
10.01.2022 Week B tomorrow team. It’s going to be warm so please remember to bring hats and drink bottles and apply sunscreen before you arrive. Now that rep sports are over, we have more athletes attending each week. It’s important to remember that we can only have one parent per athlete attending each week. We are still at our 500 people cap at the ground as required by our COVID plan. ... Please also remember to check in via the QR code. Finally, please ensure that only athletes in age groups u11s and over are wearing metal spikes. Those athletes who do choose to wear metal spikes will also need to have normal shoes for throwing and other events where metal spikes cannot be worn, and also for walking to and from all events. See you in the morning

05.01.2022 Big thanks to everyone for coming yesterday. Special thanks to those who stepped up to help in the absence of most of our committee. Thanks also to those who helped Sharon after the little discus incident. A quick ambulance ride, few hours in the hospital and 5 stitches later and she was home and resting up. A timely reminder as to why we have as few people as possible inside the fence! Age managers - also a good time to speak to the athletes (old and new) about not throwing... until inside the cage is clear. As we were so short on committee yesterday (shorter than we had anticipated with Sharon being out during the first event), we weren’t around to notice any issues. So if you noticed anything in terms of long wait times or anything else, please send a message to the page so we can tinker with the program. Sharon will be back answering messages re uniforms etc during the week. Enjoy your Sunday!
