24.01.2022 Melbourne Museum has gathered work by some of the most talented VCE design students in the state for their annual Top Design exhibition - including our very own Celia Davidson (OW2019). This year, you can do a virtual tour of the exhibition, or visit in-person after 27 June. Read more:
24.01.2022 Over the past few months, we have enjoyed live-streamed performances from the likes of the National Theatre, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift from the comfort of our own homes. Our students want to bring that experience to you, too! For the first time, next Thursday, our students will be acting in front of a green screen for a live streamed performance of Two Weeks with the Queen, based on the popular Morris Gleitzman novel. This pivot to virtual performances means our students can continue their performance and potentially reach the far corners of the globe, so spread the word. As they say in show business, "the show must go on"!
23.01.2022 It has been the most extraordinarily intense time. As the Principal of this great school, I am bursting with pride at how the staff and students of Wesley College managed, in the most extraordinary circumstances, not only to keep learning continuing, but also managing to foster the threads of community when they could so easily have frayed, Nick Evans, Principal, writes in our #community magazine. The Lion magazine is one of those strong linking threads, now in its 139th edition. For the first time ever, Lion has been published as an eMagazine, reflective of the times and reflecting the extraordinary way #school has been delivered these past few months. Read more:
23.01.2022 One thing were all missing at Wesley is our community not just our students, but also our parents and OWs, as youll see in this photo from simpler times! While we welcome back our Senior students, in Melbourne were all still entering another period of physical distancing and we should remind ourselves of what we will achieve when we work together. Stay safe and look after one another, so that we can be together sooner. #AllOfUsAreOne
23.01.2022 When I meet new students and ask what they enjoy, many mention gaming, among other things at which point theres usually an eyeroll from their parents. Neither response is surprising: video games are almost universally popular with young people, and parents are almost universally concerned about them. Steven Coshutt, Head of Middle School at the Elsternwick Campus, tells us. He explores whether video games are bad, or good. Read more: 4-min read.
23.01.2022 What are the attributes of successful students and how are Wesley teachers enabling all students to develop those attributes using a range of strategies, attitudes and practical skills? Ben Reeves has some answers. 7-min read.
22.01.2022 Congratulations to Wesley’s Fraser Rosman in the AFL Draft pick #34 by the Melbourne Football Club off the back of his standout performances for the Lions in APS Football and the Sandringham Dragons in the under-18 NAB League.
22.01.2022 Since she was in Year 4, Sobi Arulampalam has felt blessed to share experiences with the Aboriginal students from the Yiramalay/Wesley Studio School, who spend part of the year at the Glen Waverley Campus. One friendship in particular, with a student from Yiramalay with whom Sobi roomed during her Year 9 Clunes experience was especially influential in her later becoming the Spiritual Life Prefect. I have noticed growth, particularly in my peers, acceptance and understanding ...of cultural differences through the programs involving interaction with Yiramalay students, Sobi told the Domain Magazine earlier this year. Sobi and her student leadership peers have continued to support social justice causes this year, and recently the entire Year 12 cohort threw their support behind Mission Australia, to provide support to others during this pandemic. 22.01.2022 A key takeaway from the past weeks of remote learning is that online and face-to-face approaches both support learning. French teacher Milica Savic explains how a blended approach is giving her students the best of both worlds. 5-minute read.
19.01.2022 Hear the words school readiness and most of us think of children developing the skills to prepare for school, but school readiness is just as much about schools being ready for children and thats what Wesleys early years programs are all about. Read more:
19.01.2022 When children aged three, four or five begin ECLC or Prep, it’s vital they feel they belong in a secure and familiar environment. As Jacinta Janssens and Kieran McCrohan explain, that’s why everything at Wesley begins with the child. Read more:
19.01.2022 The children in our Glen Waverley Early Childhood Learning Centre have a wonderful connection to their school and community. Watch one of them, Amber Qian, singing the national anthem.

18.01.2022 As an elite hurdler, Ashley Farmer, Year 10, has seen some tough competition. I went through plenty of tough times, ups and downs but that has made me the person and athlete I am today. Others may want to see you fail particularly competitors on the track! but everything happens for a reason and it will always make you stronger. She moved to Melbourne from Bright this year, to board at Wesleys Learning in Residence at the Glen Waverley Campus and to focus on improving her athletics. I love living in Melbourne, Ashley says, I feel very close to everything and can get places easily by public transport. Ashley was recently interviewed in The Weekly Times newspaper, read more here:

16.01.2022 Its Science Week! Students are celebrating with at-home science activities and were taking this opportunity to recognise all who are using science to guide us through this pandemic, including scientists like our own Julian Druce (OW1982), Head of the Virus Identification Laboratory at the Doherty Institute and one of the first to grow COVID-19 in the lab, and countless other parents and community members.
16.01.2022 We never need an excuse to wear our purple but today we wear it prouder than ever on the 10th anniversary of #wearitpurple Day. Wear it Purple was founded in 2010 in response to global stories of real teenagers, real heartache and their very real responses. In 2010, several rainbow young people took their own lives following bullying and harassment resulting from the lack of acceptance of their sexuality or gender identity. What started out small has now grown; however the ...message remains the same. Everybody has the right to be proud of who they are. For further information or to see how you can get involved visit https://www.wearitpurple.org/
15.01.2022 Congratulations to all the staff and students at Yiramalay/Wesley Studio School!

His experience has changed what multiculturalism means to him. Read more: 1-min read.

13.01.2022 With Wesley students learning in virtual classrooms earlier in Term 2, our Directors of Student Theatre faced a question: was it feasible to run rehearsals - virtually? Our students took to this new rehearsal format with gusto, and you can see the results at the Alice in Cyberland performance at our Glen Waverley Campus in October, or watch our St Kilda Road students perform in a live streamed version of Two Weeks with the Queen on Thursday.

12.01.2022 Good advice from Josh Piterman (OW2003), who was playing the title role in Phantom of the Opera in Londons West End before the pandemic: control the control...lables; limit your consumption of news One update a day is enough; and keep a daily gratitude journal of the things, people and moments for which youre grateful for right now. 10.01.2022 It is clear that lockdown 2.0 is impacting upon our children socially and emotionally, and its a significant impediment, challenge and demand on parents who are also juggling many balls in the air, says Ben Dooley, our Head of Junior School, Glen Waverley. 05.01.2022 Year 8 student Lillian Rebelos inventive idea for a metal sculpture has won the Glen Eira Art Prize Inspiration in Isolation. Her maquette, a preliminary model for a sculpture, is made of recycled cardboard and was created for her Radically Recycled Unit in Visual Art. The life-sized cardboard sculpture references the experiences of isolation - and the triumph of the human connection. I want the audience to see how connections are made and bonds are formed, across technology, despite a worldwide pandemic, Lillian says about her work. Congratulations Lillian!
