21.01.2022 Oh this? This is just a reminder of the heart that healthcare workers put into taking care of patients' emotional needs, as well as their physical needs. It's not a new story, but it is a beautiful one and one worth sharing.... #changinglives #givinghope #wesleyresearch #covid19 #healthcareworkers #researchrocks #Nurses2020
20.01.2022 On the 18th of June, our world-renowned researchers pledged their support to the global community to help combat COVID-19. This video highlights some research initiatives designed to support those who are critically ill, those on the frontline, those with pre-existing conditions, and those who are vulnerable to the widespread impacts of this virus. The work is only just beginning and we need your support to carry on the fight. ... If the situation in Victoria has shown us anything, it's that we're not out of the woods. Not until there is a cure, a vaccine, or an effective treatment. And we will only find that through medical research. #covid19 #changinglives #givinghope #medicalresearch The Wesley Hospital St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital #donate #dogood #covidresearch

18.01.2022 Thank you to our amazing clinical trial coordinators! Keep on giving hope and changing lives.
17.01.2022 Research into understanding the influence of the gut microbiome (the trillions of microorganisms that live in our intestinal tract) on disease progression in patients with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) has resulted in a very interesting finding. A portion of MND patients in the study who had a microbiome deemed to be "bad" (i.e. low in richness and diversity), were found to do better that those patients with a "good" microbiome. Although this finding does not apply to all MND p...atients, it does show that further investigation is needed to understand this link. Congratulations to our #MND researchers Dr Frederik Steyn, Dr Pamela McCombe, Dr Robert Henderson and Dr Shyuan Ngo for your ongoing devotion to this critical work. 14.01.2022 Congratulations to Professor Bala Venkatesh, Director of Intensive Care Unit at The Wesley Hospital. His study, the ‘HOPE HCQ 4 Healthcare Workers’ research study in India, has randomised its first two healthcare workers. This trial aims to determine the safety and efficacy of the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine in protecting those on the frontline from COVID-19. Just 6898 healthcare workers to go!... 08.01.2022 Amidst rising concern of a second wave of COVID-19, people with pre-existing conditions are avoiding, not attending, or deferring routine medical care, which could lead to more serious implications. Dr John Rivers, Cardiologist at St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital advised that if we don't maintain our health and well-being by speaking with health professionals, the second wave may actually be all the other diseases that people have been neglecting like diabetes, cancer care a...nd cardiovascular disease. Give today to enable research that protects those with pre-existing conditions impacted by COVID-19. http://ow.ly/VWOj50ATbPi #changinglives #givinghope #wesleyresearch #medicalresearch #clinicaltrials #healthcare #research #covid19 #staysafe #covidresearch #SocialDistancing

01.01.2022 Healthcare workers are our most precious resource and in Melbourne almost 1000 healthcare workers have been infected with COVID-19 with many more at risk. The sooner we find answers, the sooner we can support those on the frontline, so they can continue to support the community. Our COVID-19 Rapid Response Research Centre is currently exploring how a widely-available drug can prevent #COVID19 infection via a #research study of 7000 #healthcare workers. ...
