Many people dont like hearing tests because they feel uncomfortable going into a small testing booth. Our clinic has an extra large custom built testing room so you and your child will feel relaxed and at ease. So what actually happens in a test? Philippa will discuss your hearing history and any c...oncerns you may have. She will also check that your ears are clear of wax. Your test will be performed in our comfortable sound-proof room. You will be asked to wear headphones and tested using an audiometer. It is totally painless and non invasive. The test will involve a number of different parts including: Pure Tone Audiometry- which requires you to listen to different tones and respond. Speech Audiometry- where you will listen to speech and be asked to repeat back words. This evaluates the softest speech sounds you are able to hear. Tympanometry may also be performed using a soft plug that creates pressure changes in your ear to determine how well your eardrum is moving and measure reflexive responses of the middle ear muscles. Special types of testing are used that are tailored to children and infants. Get a map on your phone or a printed one, as if you get lost or cant find what youre looking for it can be hard to hear and understand directions.
