05.01.2022 It was wonderful to meet local Broken Hill artist, Jenny Cattonar today who popped in to show West Darling Art's Director, Cathy Farry, not one but two portraits! Jenny mainly works in oils painting portraits, flora and fauna. She enjoys painting copies of 'old masters' and regularly receives commissions for this kind of work. Jenny is self-taught but commented her grandfather in Italy restored frescoes and her father was good at drawing. She explained that no projections were used in her copies but it was about eye and hand co-ordination. Her advice to emerging artists is ' you can learn but it is all in the eyes'. For art enquiries, Jenny may be contacted on: 80874828

05.01.2022 Great article on cultural tourism from SBS News: 'Keanu Bates tagged along on tours at Mutawintji National Park as a child. Now he is teaching the history of the ancient Indigenous ceremonial grounds, northeast of Broken Hill, to up to 60 people a day. "Mutawintji has never seen this many visitors in the time that I have been here," he tells SBS News. His tours have been so busy since regional tourism opened up in New South Wales, he is going to have to train up more guides... to him out.' 01.01.2022 Australia Post's recent decision to support the use of Aboriginal place names on mail addresses, along with TV shows declaring the Indigenous area in which they were filmed, and Bruce Pascoe's upcoming book, Loving Country: A guide to Sacred Australia all help increase language understanding for mainstream audiences.
