23.01.2022 Lieutenant Nick Stather has been a long time stalwart of West Swan. He recently announced that both he and Cheryl will be returning home to the UK as of next week. We were happy that we were able to present Nick with his 10 year service medal plus provide him with a small going away present before he moves on. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Nick for his years of service, his contribution to the Brigade, the support plus mentoring and the challenging radio m...essages due to his broad accent. We wish both him and Cheryl all the very best. #TYFYS

15.01.2022 ***PERMITS FOR RUNNING FIRE SUSPENDED FOR SATURDAY 24/10/20 AND SUNDAY 25/10/20*** The City of Swan has suspended all permits for running fire this weekend due to unfavorable weather conditions. Residents may still burn piles provided they adhere to all conditions on their permit (including weather conditions which are likely to be outside required parameters). 15.01.2022 18/02/2020 approx. 1355hrs A message to our community from the Brigade: In line with social distancing instructions and seeking to support the minimisation of the risk of spreading COVID-19 West Swan will not be available to participate in community engagements for the immediate future nor, will the Station be available for open visits,... Keeping both our member and community's health at the forefront of mind we have identified and taken some steps to assist with enabling the Brigade to respond to incidents. As a result of the above, if West Swan is in attendance, we may request and apply social distancing practices. For example, we prefer a wave to say "hello" versus a handshake and we appreciate your understanding. As part of the City of Swan Fire Services and as volunteers, we value our members, our community and we will continue to do what we can, when we can and to the best of our abilities. If you wish to contact the Brigade for a general enquiry, please feel free to do so via our email. If there is an emergency, call 000. 11.01.2022 No time for silly jokes or puns this year, just a friendly reminder to not be a fool, and change your smoke alarm batteries.

09.01.2022 Are you planning on burning this weekend? Then see this important message from City of Swan: Gusty northerly winds are expected during Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May ahead of a significant trough and cold front. These winds will bring relatively warm, dry and gusty conditions to the majority of the South West Land Division that are unseasonable for this time of year. As such, community members should consider delaying their burn where possible and ensure current burns are fully extinguished on completion. We also remind permit holders to check the conditions of their permit, especially the specified maximum wind speed, prior to lighting up to ensure compliance.
08.01.2022 ***RESTRICTED BURNING PERIOD*** The Restricted Burning Period in City of Swan commences Thursday 1st October 2020, and runs until 30th November 2020 during this time most forms of burning require a permit. Refer to https://www.swan.wa.gov.au//Download-Your-202021-Fire-Seas for more details. From 1st October 2020, you will be able to apply for a permit online by accessing https://www.swan.wa.gov.au//E/Fire/Burn-Permit-Information - note the online option will NOT be avai...lable before 1st October. This will allow rapid approval for burning heaps up to five square meters as long as appropriate other criteria are met. For larger heaps or running fire you will also be able to apply on line, but this will be referred to the appropriate Bush Fire Officer for assessment and approval which may take several days. You can as an alternative still apply face to face at your local brigade station only during the times listed, refer to the links above. Note that Rapid Approval does not mean you can start burning straight away, unless you have already given the required notifications to all adjoining landholders (usually four days), but nothing wrong with giving advance notice ahead of obtaining the permit.

02.01.2022 Introducing the 2020 West Swan Movember team. Over the last few years our members have participated in Movember for a number of reasons, raising important funds for men’s health issues. This year, the cause is closer to our hearts than ever before with one of our own team, Cameron, currently undergoing treatment for testicular cancer. At just 28 years young, it goes to show that cancer doesn’t discriminate based on age.... This year we have a few growing mo’s and a few (including pets) taking the ‘Move for Movember’ option, walking 60km over the month of November. Follow the link below for the team page and to donate (all donations big or small will be greatly appreciated). If you can't donate, please share this post as so we can reach as far as possible. Big shout out to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA media team for the mustache decal for our Light Tanker.
