13.01.2022 2021 COACHES | In case you missed it earlier this week here is our Division One coaching line up for U12-18 for season 2021: Girls: U12: Amy Porter U14: Karen Winter... U16: Morgan Treloar U18: Sarah Turnbull Boys: U12: Dion Grieger U14: Brendan Mann and Blake Soares U16: Anthony Azzopardi U18: Jimmy Alexander We plan to announce our coaches for Under 10s and other U12-18 divisions prior to Christmas and also advise players of their initial squad placement and training start times for January 2021. However, these timings will depend on COVID restrictions and our ability to hold further training sessions for the new 2021 age groups. We will keep our families informed as we find out more. It’s not too late to register your interest to play for West Adelaide in 2021. 12.01.2022 2021 COACHES | We would like to officially welcome Anthony Azzopardi to the club. Anthony has been helping already this season with the boy’s program and will coach our Under 16 Division 1 Boys in 2021 and brings experience as a head coach in both Under 16s and 18s. Anthony has also been an assistant coach at Premier League level and a part of Basketball SA’s High Performance coaching network, most recently as a development coach with the SA Under 18 Boys Metro team. Welcome ...aboard Anthony! We also welcome back Morgan Treloar to coach our Under 16 Division 1 Girls. Morgan will continue to build on the large improvements made this year with our Under 16 girls program, Morgan’s list of achievements continues to grow with multiple medals as part of SA Metro coaching teams and most recently her selection as one of four young SA coaches into the Inaugural Emerging Coach Initiative being run by Basketball Australia. 10.01.2022 2021 COACHES | Dion Grieger returns to continue the great work he has done over the past few years with the Under 12 program on both the boys and girls’ side. Dion played all his junior basketball with West and went on to captain and then coach the Premier League team. He has also been developing his coaching skills over the last 18 months as part of the Adelaide Lightning Coaching Staff. Dion will coach the Under 12 Boys Division 1 team. Another West Adelaide Life Member, Am...y Porter, will coach the Under 12 Girls Division 1 team. Amy started playing basketball for West Adelaide at age nine and continued all the way through to play Premier League. Amy has done an amazing job developing our Under 12 girls over the past three years teaching them the importance of fundamental skills and team concepts. Amy is also currently part of the Basketball SA High Performance coaching network and will be working with the girl’s program at the Adelaide Invitational Challenge in January. 09.01.2022 2021 COACHES | The Bearcats are delighted to announce that Brendan Mann will coach our Under 14 Division 1 Boys team in 2021. A former world champion player as a junior and a 177-game NBL veteran, Brendan provides an enormous amount of basketball playing and coaching experience for our program. Brendan has previously coached Premier League and consulted for FIBA, and is currently a part of the Basketball SA High Performance coaching network. He will lead the Under 14 Boys pro...gram at the upcoming Adelaide Invitational Challenge. We would also like to welcome Blake Soares to the club who will be working closely with Brendan in the Under 14 Boys program. Blake is a former State player himself and has most recently coached Under 14 Division 1s at Sturt in 2019. Welcome to the Bearcats Blake! On the girls side, we are pleased to announce that Karen Winter will continue as Under 14 Division 1 coach. Karen is a former Division 1 junior and senior player and has previously won State Champs as a junior coach and has also been a coach in previous Basketball SA High Performance Programs. 01.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE | Earlier today the Premier advised that community sports, training/games indoor and outdoor, non-contact and contact, cannot re-start until Dec...ember 1. The Police Commissioner, Grant Stevens explained that contact tracing is easier with school sports, but more difficult with community sports because a wide range of people from different areas and family groups come together. Authorities would like at least another week to ensure the Parafield COVID-19 cluster is under control before lifting other restrictions. Basketball SA remains in full support of the State Government and the restrictions in place for the safety of our community. Whilst we are disappointed not to be returning to the court sooner, we look forward to resuming December 1 and celebrating the last two weeks of our 2020 season in a year that’s been like no other.
