24.01.2022 Innovation in VCE ACCOUNTING Yesterday students used building blocks to help categorize different cash inflows and outflows into headings used for a Cash Flow Statement. They used the same blocks to discuss the ones wed excluded and how they fit into the revenue and expense definitions that contribute to determining profit or loss in an Income Statement. They also used the blocks to discuss how different sized blocks could refer to the proportions in $ value and the posi...tive and negative effects these have on cash flow and profit. This lead to students gaining a better understanding of how cash surplus or deficits occur and also how a business can earn a profit or suffer a loss using those visual representations. The class now has photos to now look back on that students can use as a guide for when they analyze and use information across various accounting case studies. Congratulations to the students and Ms Briffa

22.01.2022 Whole-school student wellbeing survey Good afternoon students, As we get closer to having all of you back on site for face-to-face learning, it is really important to take the time to reflect on how this unusual period of self-isolation and remote learning has gone for you. To support you in your return to school and to support your overall wellbeing moving forward, it would be great if each of you could spend 5 minutes to complete this short survey:... https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx Our Wellbeing team will use this data to put together a plan for wellbeing workshops and lunch time activities for Term 3 and 4. Remember, the survey is anonymous, we only want to know which year level you belong to! Thank you for your time and I look forward to welcoming the rest of you back next Tuesday! Mr Henderson

18.01.2022 Students, have you tried to flip a scenario yet? Here are a couple of examples of scenarios some of us might be experiencing now: Im stuck in isolation. I cant see my friends and it feels like Im all alone.... Football season is cancelled! Not only is the footy not on TV, but I cant even play myself. My life is over! The sun is shining and I cant go to the beach. It may as well be raining. What a waste of sunshine! How can we turn these scenarios around to be positive, or to see the positives? Write down 5 scenarios that are frustrating you or making you angry at the moment. Then rework these scenarios so that the focus is on the positives. An example is below. Scenario: Im stuck in isolation. I cant see my friends and it feels like Im all alone. Positive Outlook: Ive started using these amazing apps on my phone that allow me to video call my friends all the time. I didnt even know about these apps. They are going to be awesome even after isolation. But the best bit about isolation is, Ive got more time at home where my piano is and Im playing all the time which means Im getting better. Maybe Ill be good enough to play at assembly when school goes back. Another example is here https://vimeo.com/411236429 To join the Student Wellbeing Microsoft team, go to https://teams.microsoft.com//19%3ab510801cf/conversations [email protected] involved Westall!

15.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 9 student Monineath Seang who has been shortlisted for the 2020 Melbourne Writers Festival Storytelling Competition for International Students. Although it is more about celebrating Monineaths writing journey and talent, the competition comes down to an online vote, closing at 10am on Wednesday 30th September.... Monineath has worked so hard on her piece and it would be amazing if all of the Westall community to get behind her and click on the following link to vote: https://mwf.com.au/bold-new-world-peoples-choice/ Good luck Monineath

14.01.2022 Good morning Westall. Week 4 of remote learning. I have combined a few things here. Firstly the month of May sees many groups and friends sending challenges to each other to stay healthy, motivated and connected. One of the challenges going around at the moment is the 25 push ups per day for 25 days. I was nominated for this by a friend so have posted that video. I challenge you all to do 25 per day for the next 25 days. Push ups, sit ups, star jumps, anything is fine. Just g...et moving as it keeps you warm and healthy. On another note, the music in the background is from U2 - Pride (In the name of love) this song was a tribute to the great Martin Luther King, who was a leader and activist for humanity, equality and caring for each other. I have attached some of his quotes and information. So please do your 25 each day to look after self and follow Martin Luther Kings lead and look after each other. Have a great week!!! See more

13.01.2022 Wellbeing @ Westall Usually our emotional brain and thinking brain work together, however, when we feel stressed or anxious, our emotional brain takes over. The emotional brain is reactive, which means it acts on impulse without thinking, so when you are stressed or anxious your logical thinking and problem-solving switches off. This short clip will give you some tools to help your thinking brain come back online, to help you see a way through your struggles or situation and ...realise that you are so much wiser and more capable than your thoughts and emotions. 01.01.2022 The vast majority of students in Victoria are learning from home because that is the advice from our health experts. If we did not follow this advice, more than... one million children, their parents and school staff congregating at our schools has the potential to spread Coronavirus in our community. Let me be very clear, particularly to the federal government who do not run any schools, we will only transition back to face-to-face teaching for all students when that is the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer. Not a moment before. What we are doing in combating this pandemic is working. But the situation is very fragile. A move back too early could see a spike in cases and a need to reimpose any restrictions we may have eased. I know this is hard - for parents and carers, students and educators - flexible and remote learning is challenging, no doubt. But I could not be prouder of our principals, teachers and support staff. Exceptional, dedicated and innovative. They are doing their very best. I am seeing this first-hand as a father of three school-aged children. And I could not be prouder of Victorian parents and carers. 97% of children are learning remotely. You have heard and understood the message. Thank you. And for students where learning from home is simply not possible, our schools are open for you. We are all in this together. And it is working because at all times we have followed the advice of our health experts in Victoria. We must, and we will, continue to do that.
