25.01.2022 A Rich Legacy. As the Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) Board Members and CEO travel to each and every homeland to ensure members and their families are safe and feeling supported by BAC they take time for important yarns. Pictured below are the Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation CEO Ingrid Stonhill with Chair Balang Wayne Kalakala (left) who is a Balngarra clan member and founding member of the legendary Sunrize Band and award winning artist, spend time with Kardbam clan leader Bulanj Ivan Namirrikki (right) at Bulanjs outstation Kumurulu. Spending time together on country finding ways to build on the legacy of the homelands movement leaders such as Bulanjs father Peter Marralwanga and Balangs father Jack Kalakala is essential to BACs on going operations and service delivery.

21.01.2022 WHY IS AN INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY ART CENTRE ESSENTIAL? While Art Centres and their galleries begin to open to the public again, as a result of closures due to COV...ID-19, many essential services are still being carried out behind the scenes. Maningrida Arts & Culture artists live and work on their HOMELANDS and travel regularly between outstations on neighbouring clan estates and to family homes in the larger Maningrida community. Living on country is critical as artists exclusively work with locally harvested natural materials and depict designs that reference the important ancestral sites and songlines from their country. The art centre supports the lifeways of First Nations people on 32 homelands across the lands of 112 clans. Art centre staff regularly visit outstations to deliver tools, support the harvesting of large barks and hollow stringybark trees and document artwork narratives. Maningrida Arts & Culture is the heart of Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation, one of the largest Aboriginal corporations in Australia, established in the early 1970s at the height of self-determination and the outstation movement. In the early days Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation would deliver essential communications and supplies to outstations and collect artworks for promotion and sale at Maningrida Arts & Culture. Today, the Art Centre works closely with Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation to provide resources and services on homelands in the areas of land management through Bawinanga Rangers, enterprise development including commercial fishing licenses and Wildfoods, housing and construction, maintenance of roads, operation of commercial businesses such as a café and supermarket, and the delivery of food and supplies. This year the Art Centre is working with the 'Tucker Run' through Barlmarrk supermarket to deliver food to outstations on a weekly basis and also with the Bawinanga Rangers to protect and document important rock art and sacred sites. Maningrida Arts & Culture has developed plans for 5 new artist studios and the redevelopment of womens centres on Bawinanga outstations and their construction is a priority for the coming year. These services are essential. https://www.facebook.com/ManingridaArtsCulture https://www.facebook.com/WestArnhemland @maningridaarts @Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation #maningridaarts #Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation

18.01.2022 Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation is here to serve our members. Particularly those with strong connection and affiliation to their land - those that choose to live on their traditional homelands. It has been a difficult year, coping with COVID-19, there is much stress and anxiety felt by many here in community. The disappointment felt by us as an organisation, that does so much for so many is immense, when our members property is stolen, damaged and disrespected by young peo...ple out for instant gratification. Who should be held accountable people ask? Who should be punished? We are not entering into the blame game here, but we will enter the shame game. STOP causing others hurt, STOP wasting members money, STOP YOUR SELFISH ACTS. SHAME ON YOU for stealing our Civil Roads Vehicle. Another reason the homelands roads won’t get done.

15.01.2022 Check out the BAC fishing crew in their deadly new uniforms. They will be selling fresh mullet , salmon and king threadfin fillets at Barlmarrk Supermarket Thursday night markets.

14.01.2022 Bawinanga Rangers are assembling buffalo and pig exclusion fencing around a water hole at Ji-Balbal. They have mounted monitoring cameras on surrounding trees to capture the land’s recovery over time. The cameras have been programmed to photograph the area every day at noon, until the next dry season. The rangers will also get drone footage monthly. The project will provide evidence for landowners and other stakeholders of the impact that eradicating buffalo has on the floodplain’s recovery.

14.01.2022 So good to see the work of our Babbarra artists celebrated. We were a bit coy about too much promotion given that the high demand for product saw Kip@Co sell out overnight - but hey, there will be more product made and these beautiful pieces do make us want to sing from the rooftop https://nit.com.au/babbarra-womens-centre-bedding-and-home/

13.01.2022 So very proud of our organisation and our incredible employees, who have worked so tirelessly during this COVID year. Food security this year in particular has been paramount to protecting the health of our people living on their homelands. So many challenges, but still we have ensured our Tucker Run has gone out every week, for over 20 years. This essential service is solely funded by our BAC Barlmarrk Supermarket. BAC subsidises the food and produce to ensure people on the... homelands can buy food and produce at the same price as the community living in Maningrida. Barlmarrk Supermarket is at the heart of what we do, supporting families to have the right to live on their traditional lands. Without all the services provided by BAC this would not be possible. Being recognised by this award is so significant and we are so very honoured. 11.01.2022 Lines on a map don’t matter when caring for country and helping out fellow Rangers. Being there to keep each other safe and do the exhausting job of fighting fires on foot is what matters. No fancy fire trucks or equipment out bush, just a helicopter to drop you in as there are no roads. It’s already 40 deg without the heat of the fire. Imagine! There are no fire service medals for this mob but they sure are our hero’s!!! #bawinangaaboriginalcorporation #Niaa #NTG

10.01.2022 Did you know that in 1979 Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation built a shed to store and sort food and essential supplies before sending them out to its 32 homelands, so countrymen could survive. Since then that storage shed has become the Barlmarrk Supermarket which has been successfully serving Maningrida and 32 Homelands for 20 years. Barlmarrk Supermarket offers employment to over 45 local employees every year. BAC pays approximately $70,000 in wages into the community eve...ry month, providing opportunities for community members young and old to have meaningful opportunities to work and gain retail certification. BAC provides a free bus service to and from the supermarket from community to make sure people without transport have free access to food and can carry their groceries home. BACs Barlmarrk Supermarket sells 1,000 kgs of fresh fruit and vegetables every week, at the same prices that you can buy in Darwin. BAC invests any business profits back into community by improving and creating new food service, whilst still operating the Tucker Run weekly to deliver food and supplies to its 32 Homelands. BAC invests back into renewed food initiatives such as the Wild Foods Enterprises, providing new employment opportunities for local fishermen, Nursery staff and community members to harvest bush foods. BAC also provides the communities first ever free bus service. BAC is a not for profit charity. BAC cares about its homelands and community members and works hard to look out for their interests.

10.01.2022 This is a new house built by BAC through a government contract. What does it mean? Well aside from giving a family room to breathe, it: creates jobs in our local community gives our Indigenous employees building skills and formal qualifications and our income from the contract goes back into our local community. We need more of this kind of work! Its a win for the government, a win for BAC and a huge win for our community.

09.01.2022 This is well deserved recognition for our Tucker Run. We receive no or other funding for this service - it’s funded by money made by Barlmarrk Supermarket. Please vote!

08.01.2022 Dear Community Members Breaking into a BAC house or anyone’s house is a crime. It causes a lot of pain and discomfort to other people. The biggest effect is on the staff member living in that house, who becomes a victim of your crime. A victim of crime may initially feel shock, anger and fear, as well as helplessness, and panic. These feelings may turn to grief, sadness, despair, mistrust and vulnerability. In time, more serious emotional problems such as anxiety attacks, c...ould occur. The cost of repairing houses damaged by break ins is huge - call out fees, ordering materials from outside community and labour hours to fix. We care about our staff, we care about our community, we ask you to show respect to other people living in your community. Community safety is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone has a right to stay in their house without fear of becoming a victim of crime. If you have information about house breaks ins or damage to property please talk to Community Patrol Staff or Maningrida Police. Everyone has a right to feel safe. If you are in a situation that you do not feel safe then call Police Emergency on 000 ( triple zero). Let’s continue to be proud of where we live and keep Maningrida as a safe and friendly place to live. Regards BAC Board and Management
