23.01.2022 Lets be upfront about this, we all need to be vigilant at the moment, as we really do not know where the Covid 19 virus will go, or how it will develop. So, in the short term, take personal responsibility for your own hygiene and observe the personal space measures. Now to business! There is a very high likelihood that your business will be affected in the not too distant future. The most important thing to consider at this time is How will you remain compliant with Fair W...ork Australia? if you need to stand down employees. So here are the basics. 1 Employee or their family members have Covid 19 virus You must advise your employee to remain at home and not to return to work for 14 days AND have a medical clearance from their GP. For full time and part time employees, they can access personal/carers leave entitlements. Casual workers will not receive leave entitlements. If they refuse to use their personal leave, payment to the employee is not required. 2 Employee wants to self-quarantine without a diagnosis of Covid 19 or has not had contact with infected people Discuss with your employee options for working from home. If thats not an option, paid annual leave or unpaid leave can be provided. If the employee refuses to take paid leave, then payment to the employee is not required. 3 I want to ask my employees to remain at home. If you consider it best practice to ask your employees to remain at home you could arrange for a work from home scenario. However be aware that if you direct a full time or part time employee to stand down due to the risks, and the employee is ready, willing and able to work the employee is generally entitled to be paid while the direction applies. 4 Travelling Employees If travel is for work, you can direct your employees not to travel. If personal, you cannot. If they choose to travel, they must understand the restrictions of self-quarantining on return to Australia and that this time cannot be used as personal leave, as they are fully aware of the consequences. Your best advice currently would be to direct them to the DFAT site. If you have any concerns regarding any of the above, please message or call me. We can put a plan in place to ensure you and your employees understand the consequences and alternatives.

22.01.2022 There’s been a lot of talk around JobKeeper payments, and the time schedule to enrol in the system. Truth is, many businesses may not actually experience the full effects of downturn in the economy till May or June or even later. The dates for enrolment have always been around the first JobKeeper period. So, if you wanted to take advantage of the JobKeeper payments for employees in April, then you have until 8th of May to pay your employees the JobKeeper top up, AND 31st May ...to finalise your enrolment. What if you don’t experience a downturn till May or June! Can you still get JobKeeper? Yes you can! The same criteria will apply when measuring your decline in turnover, and the same eligibility for employees will also apply. In other words, they must be on your payroll on 1st March, and if casual, must have worked for 12 months prior with regular and systemic shifts. If you see a decline in turnover coming, and want to enrol, give us a call to discuss. With a bit of planning, we can get you registered so when the downturn comes, you’re ready to start receiving JobKeeper, to help keep your staff on the books. Call me today to discuss 0417 933 968 or send me a message. #JobKeeper #WestBAS

12.01.2022 Sometimes even bookkeepers need to take a break! No I’m not a Jobkeeper Robot, however things have been pretty chaotic in the lead up to EOFY2020 and this little duckie needs a break. So with the internal boundaries now open what better way to spend a weekend with the hubstar than taking a quick trip to Margaret River to indulge in food, wine, and relaxation See you all on the flip side! Business as usual Tuesday!
11.01.2022 We wish you and your families a safe, happy and prosperous 2019. Our office will be closed till 17th January. Stay safe! Susan @ WestBAS

11.01.2022 GOVERNMENT STIMULUS PACKAGES Continuing on with the saga that is Covid-19, both the Federal and State governments have announced stimulus packages. These measures have not been legislated, however both sides of government are on board and it is implied that they will pass without objection. You may be able to take advantage of some of these measures, as business slows down. And lets face it, most businesses will slow down! The Governments have recognised the impending cashfl...ow crisis and have brought in several measures that small businesses can access. Payroll Tax concessions Instant Asset write-off up to $130k per asset and 50% instant depreciation for certain assets. A credit on the March and June BAS for 50% of PAYGW up to $25k. Subsidy of 50% of wages of Apprentices or Trainees $1b funding available to support regional areas The ATO is also supporting business by discussing options around the eligibility for a deferral on payments, PAYG Instalments being varied to nil, remitting penalties and interest imposed since 23 January 2020 and low-interest payment plans. If you think any of these apply to you, or if you want to find out more information, send me a message or call me.
09.01.2022 This is a classic example of wasting your money. This is not a scam, this company is a legitimate that will help you renew your business name. However, ASIC only charge you $36/ year and is very easy. So my advice! Wait for the reminder email from ASIC, check the host email address, and pay online. https://www.asic.gov.au/for-bus/renewing-your-business-name

05.01.2022 BE VIGILANT - Scammers are at it again, with the rollout of government stimulus packages. Remember, the ATO will never ask for your bank details, so keep them to yourself. The only way to inform the ATO of your details is via your MyGov account. https://www.ato.gov.au//On/Identity-security/Scam-alerts/

02.01.2022 With the Federal Budget done and dusted, it’s time to check your accounting software to ensure you’re deducting the correct amount of tax from your employees payroll. While changes to most accounting packages will be automatically applied, it’s always worth checking the ATO tax tables to ensure your employees are getting the tax relief. Changes take place from the first pay run after 16th November! https://www.facebook.com/191094590911195/posts/3544057645614856/?d=n
01.01.2022 Casuals going permanent! Its happening. As of 1st January 2019, if you have casuals employed under modern awards, you are required to advise them that they have the right to request permanent employment status. This is a very tricky area where employers will need to be sure all the correct boxes are ticked. Its not enough to chat over the lunch room table. A process has to be followed to cover employers should Fair Work come knocking.... My clients with casuals, an email was sent out early December. If you havent actioned that email, get in touch today to get a plan in place. If youre not currently one of my clients, I am utilising the services of an awesome HR expert who will guide us through the process and ensure you are compliant with Fairwork requirements. This is now urgent! The deadline was 1st January 2019. The sooner your system is in place, the better. Call me today on 0417933968 or send me a private message.
