25.01.2022 Come along to our Alternative Ekka fundraiser at the Nursery - I’ll pour you a beer and talk to you about plants!

24.01.2022 It’s warming up and the girls are laying again. Backyard chickens are the best.

23.01.2022 Spring signals are all over the place right now.

21.01.2022 Westbourne Farm crew. Or the cover of the next great hip hop album? You decide.

21.01.2022 Exciting news! I’m looking for a live in intern for Westbourne Farm. You get a private room and your food included while you experience all the joys of living on a suburban farm. In return, you’ll help with day to day animal and vegetable garden care and assist to further develop education programs. Six month minimum stay. Send me a message if you’re interested or have any questions. #farminternship #permaculture #marketgardener

20.01.2022 Is that it? Tapper, one of my ex battery, hens hoping for a treat. If you’re ever considering chickens, why not try giving a second life to a retired battery hen? They definitely have so much to give back. Check out @redsrescues for more info #chickensofinstagram #rescuehens

20.01.2022 Thanks for all your hard work Hung! So much digging and sawing. The Lucaena forest is shrinking daily.

19.01.2022 Brazilian custard apple planted in the spot vacated by the Leucaena. Thanks for digging in Riley

18.01.2022 What a beauty. The first perfect tomato of the season.

17.01.2022 Double dug, biointensive beds are bursting at the seams. Upcycled from pallets and sleepers, filled with hot composted goodness. #hotcompost #upcycle #growfoodanywhere

16.01.2022 Before and after shot with the pepper tree. This pest tree removal has been a three year project, worked on by so many friends and workawayers. Finally closer to done! Now to cover with black plastic and wait for the stump to die.

14.01.2022 Pest control in the veg tunnel. Beautiful day for it.

11.01.2022 Silver spangled hamburgs. Such beauties, and great layers. But such powerful feet. #chickensofinstagram #heritagehens

10.01.2022 Afternoon light on the side beds.

10.01.2022 The beautiful Madagascar bean (also called Christmas Lima bean) is a super productive and vigorous subtropical bean. It’s semi-perennial, growing for about 6-7 years and producing lovely pods for drying and shelling throughout this time. If you have a fence that needs covering or an archway, consider one of these beautiful vines. The cooked beans are creamy and delicious. #subtropicalgarden #suburbanfarming

09.01.2022 Shiny eggplants harvested this morning for @sovereignfoodsau co-op orders today. As local and fresh as you can get!

07.01.2022 Master miso making mates.

05.01.2022 All this rain had the pumpkin jungle getting out of control. I don’t really plant pumpkins any more, mostly relying on self seeded plants from my compost. They seem to just appear where they want to grow. They make a useful living mulch and provide valuable green materials for your compost pile. Plus, free pumpkins! Just don’t let them come inside...

05.01.2022 Am I a pumpkineer yet? This self seeded pumpkin weighs in at over 7kg! When your soil is happy, the plants are happy. Feed your soil and you feed yourself (and the planet). #compost #permaculture #feedthesoil

04.01.2022 Pigeon pea or King Parrot pea?

04.01.2022 This morning’s tomato harvest. Many of these are self seeded or compost tomatoes. I often find they’re the most successful plants in my garden. Wonderful gifts from the birds and the (compost) bin! #compost #frugalhedonism #retrosuburbia

01.01.2022 The weather has warmed up, so the girls have started laying again! Come visit the farm and get some fresh organic free range eggs.
