25.01.2022 Its great to see so many Westbrook based (or owned) businesses. Ive just stumbled across Whipped Cakes and More who are based in Westbrook. Who knew there was a local cake business? 25.01.2022 BREAKING: Queensland school students will learn at home for the first five weeks of Term 2, with schools only open for the children of essential workers. The mo...ve to the home-based learning model starts on Monday, 20 April and will be in place until at least Friday, 22 May. All students who can learn from home are to stay at home. School staff, unless they are vulnerable due to medical conditions, will continue to teach from the classroom to ensure continuity of learning for students. Children of essential workers and vulnerable children can continue to attend school. This is another very difficult decision, but it is the right one for Queensland while we continue to slow the spread of COVID-19. #coronavirusaustralia

24.01.2022 Covid Update - Most of the new restrictions do not apply to our area. However, the new restriction on gatherings of 30 people indoors or outdoors (excluding places with a Covid Safe Plan) does apply to the whole state.

22.01.2022 According to the Community Survey for Toowoomba Region, these were highlighted as the key areas for improvement. " Key improvement areas include management of invasive species [plants, animals and weeds], the development assessment approval process, the condition of the road network and public toilets. Improvements made to these services should be regularly communicated to residents to enhance the perceptions of these services and facilities." If you want to work on improvin...g the development assessment approval process, feel free to have another look at Fernleigh. Maybe even give them a reasonable incentive to resubmit an application. After all, the mayor is on record saying that the region NEEDS Fernleigh. 21.01.2022 Great news Queensland This morning I contacted the Premiers in New South Wales and Victoria. With 28 days passed since an unlinked case in NSW, Queensland wil...l reopen to Greater Sydney from 1am on December 1. All going well, Victoria will pass the 28 days tomorrow and we’ll be able to reopen to them, too. We know how tough this has been on families, so it's wonderful to do this in time for Christmas. Queensland is good to go, and we can’t wait to welcome friends and family back to our great state.

20.01.2022 A number of people in our Westbrook Local Directory have received an email claiming to be from Digital Pacific with the subject "Rеnеal noticе геquiгеd foг westbrookfocus.com.au! In the meantime, I have set ALL listings not to display email addresses (even those that are set to display) until I can set this up in a way that is not susceptible to misuse like this. 19.01.2022 Fantastic that Mayor Paul Antonio can see the obvious regarding Fernleigh. This is not just about Westbrook. This is about the needs of the south west corridor. Its about providing housing in a desirable and growing area. Its about securing schools to reduce the strain on Harristown. All our political leaders are saying the best way to bounce back from Covid-19 is to invest in infrastructure. So many of our recent councillor campaigns have focused on developing the regions.... Heres your chance to put substance to your words. How about some #boldambitions for the south west corridor? 16.01.2022 As you are aware, the Focus Group is here to work with the community to help the residence have a voice and a focal point with TRC in order to better serve our community. Previously YOU have suggested more footpaths and we have been pushing this agenda with TRC for some time and slowly making waves. What other items do YOU feel is lacking in our community that we can work with TRC to achieve more (no need to mention school, Fernleigh or big items we are already working on) Or do you want to see a garden group, or more skatepark sessions from TRC, movie nights.... Please help us for the benefit of our community. Jamie

12.01.2022 Toowoomba as a Quarantine Hub? What do you think? Here is Annastacia Palaszczuk MP speaking of her proposal to use Toowoomba and Gladstone as Quarantine Hubs for international arrivals instead of Brisbane. She has put the proposal to Scott Morrison (ScoMo) for consideration. This would include international flights arriving directly at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport. The announcement starts at the 45 second mark on the video. #toowoombaregion #covid19

12.01.2022 It might not look like much but this is a nice little win for the WFG and community. Ever since the dog off leash path was built the WFG have been raising the issue of unsafe edges to the path. Ankle breakers. Toowoomba Region has come out and filled to the edge of the path in the really bad spots. Thanks to council staff and whoever of the councillors who assisted with getting this actioned. Matt

11.01.2022 In the same week that Catholic Education in Queensland submitted plans to Toowoomba Region council for a proposed K-12 school in Westbrook, education minister Grace Grace MP has visited Toowoomba. Even though local candidates (David Janetzki MP and Pat Weir MP), and shadow education minister Jarrod Bleijie MP have for some time identified the dire need for a new state high school in the South-Western corridor of Toowoomba, the current state government are refusing to set a ti...me frame for the development of a school. For some time weve been expected to be content with a non-committal sentiment of what may happen sometime. The education minister concedes that the West of Toowoomba is "one of those growing areas and at this stage the Department of Education has got it on its radar." But at the same time also stated that, "We dont have a firm date at this particular time." https://www.thechronicle.com.au//new-toowoomba-hi/4063494/

11.01.2022 In response to an email Matt sent to the Department of Education last month, they have finally acknowledged the need for a new high school in the area. Note the use of 'may' instead of 'will'. This gives them wiggle room. However, this is a great change from previous letters from the community which stated that there is no need for a new high school in the short to medium term. This also indicates that if the Catholic school goes ahead, there is no need for a state school until much later. Pat Weir MP does this change your commitment given it appears there has been some internal work done?

08.01.2022 Hello Westbrookians, Welcome to 2021! I hope it's a lot kinder than 2020. I would like to remind you of tomorrow night's Focus Group meeting as well as some other thoughts regarding the Focus Group into the future. FOCUS GROUP MEETING DETAILS... When: 7:00pm Wednesday 20th January 2021 Where: Westbrook Tavern Who: Current Members of the Focus Group and ANYONE you think has a heart for the Westbrook Community and may be interested in being involved. We are expecting that some of our existing management committee members won't be available for re-election this year due to other commitments. If you know someone with a passion for Westbrook, it would be a great to invite them along to the Jan 20 and Feb 17 meeting so they can get a better feel for what the group is about and whether they might be interested in serving the community as part of the management committee of the Westbrook Focus Group when elections take place at the March 17th meeting.
