16.01.2022 The Federal Government has released proposed changes to the taxation of Employee Share Schemes (ESS) to take effect for interests acquired from 1 July 2015. This includes incremental changes for all ESS arrangements and a new regime designed for unlisted start-up companies only. Key Reforms Some of the key reforms include:... - Rights to acquire shares (including share options) will become taxable at exercise - The opportunity to defer taxation on ESS rights, that are not subject to real risk of forfeiture, but only a restriction on disposal - The maximum period for deferral of tax will increase from 7 to 15 years - Employees with ownership and voting rights up to 10% (increasing from 5%) will be eligible for deferral of taxation on ESS grants Please call our office to discuss any issues arising from ESS or how the proposed changes may influence your decision to enter ESS arrangements.

This increase is proportional for apprentices and junior employees. There has also been an increase to location allowances throughout Western Australia. 1. Award rates of pay are going up by 2.1%. 2. Non-award rates (ie those not covered by an award) will increase by $14.00 per week to $679.90 ...per week. These increases only apply to employees of businesses that are sole traders or partnerships covered by State awards or the Western Australian minimum wage. 06.01.2022 Key budget highlights for small business - The tax rate for companies with an aggregated annual turnover of less than $2 million will be reduced by 1.5 per cent from the 2015/16 income year. - A 5 per cent tax discount for individual taxpayers with business income.... - Immediate deduction for the cost of assets will be temporarily increased from $1000 to $20,000. - The rules preventing small businesses from re-entering the simplified depreciation regime for five years after opting not to use it will also be temporarily suspended. - New businesses will be able to claim an immediate deduction for professional expenses associated with setting up their business. - Further changes will be made to the taxation of employee share schemes. - Other measures to encourage business startups and entrepreneurship will be introduced. - Capital gains tax (CGT) relief will be available to small businesses for a CGT liability arising from the alteration of their legal structure from the 2016/17 income year. - Primary producers will be able to claim accelerated depreciation for water facilities, fodder storage and fencing from 1 July 2016. - The fringe benefits tax exemption for portable electronic devices used primarily for work purposes will be expanded from 1 April 2016. 01.01.2022 The Tax Laws Amendment (Small Business Measures No 2) Bill 2015 has received assent as Act No 67 of 2015. The new Act contains the following measures: - instant asset write off - the Act temporarily increases the threshold below which small businesses can claim an immediate deduction for the cost of assets from $1000 to $20,000. The increased threshold of $20,000 applies from 7.30pm (AEST), on 12 May 2015 until Friday 30 June 2017. From Saturday 1 July 2017, the threshold rev...erts to $1000. - accelerated depreciation for primary producers - the Act allows primary producers to claim an immediate deduction for capital expenditure on water facilities and fencing assets and to deduct capital expenditure on fodder storage assets over three years.
