19.01.2022 Council is pleased to support the production of The Tailings, here’s a message from the team: Hi Queenstown, we’re making a fictional TV drama series in and around Queenstown and Strahan for SBS. Set in a made-up West Coast town, it’s a story of an unlikely friendship between a 15-year-old girl, Jas and her teacher, Ruby set against the mysterious death of Jas’ father and Ruby’s first week as a new teacher. We’re going to be around for five weeks starting October 7 we will be... bringing in a Tasmanian crew of somewhere between 40 and 60 people, which adds up to over 900 nights in Queenstown motels, bed and breakfasts over the 5 weeks of production, so you’ll definitely be seeing us around! We will be employing locals for various JOBS on the production as well as EXTRAS for shooting over the next week or so, so WATCH THIS SPACE FOR CALLOUTS. But we’re not Hollywood we’re SBS! Which means over the next two weeks we’ll also be posting here for help from the community with PROPS, FURNITURE, VEHICLES AND EVEN A DOG! One other thing even though our crew are all from Tassie government requirements mean that we have strict COVID protocols that we have to abide by when shooting. So you’ll be seeing lots of masks and social distancing and extra disinfectant. We’re committed to being cautious for us and for you and your community. Our production office will be housed at the West Coast Council so please do not hesitate to get in contact with us if you have any questions over the coming weeks. We hope our show reflects the resilience and pride that we see in the West Coast and that we will do you proud when it’s shown on SBS next year. We really hope you enjoy our posts and get behind our production and STAY TUNED FOR MORE NEWS. 09.01.2022 Tasmania is home to many animals that are not found anywhere else in the world and also provides a refuge for many species that have become extinct or threatened with extinction on the mainland of Australia. ... Roadkill TAS makes reporting native wildlife roadkill easy. By using this app, and following the instructions and disclaimer, you can report what roadkill you have seen, when and where. Remember to only use the app when safe to do so and not whilst driving. The app collects data in real-time and this helps us understand where roadkill hotspots are for a variety of wildlife species. This will assist with adaptive management and mitigation techniques to try to reduce the amount of roadkill on Tasmanian roads. The best avoidance tactic is to be alert while driving. Scan the road edges for signs of wildlife. On warm moonlit nights and at dusk and dawn, animal movements tend to be greater, so take particular care at those times. Click the link to download the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details
