19.01.2022 Believe it or not, but insurers are extremely unprofitable in the space of Income Protection. Over the past 5 years, the industry has reported losses in excess of $3 billion! No wonder claims are often declined in the first instance and premiums continue to skyrocket; they are bleeding! In comes APRA They have forced their hand to prevent insurers from issuing Agreed Value Income Protection policies as of 31 March 2020. Instead, new policies will be based on an Indemnity sty...le contract, which means your income will need to be assessed and proven at the time of claim. Too bad if your business has a bad year or you stop working for 6 months to welcome a new child to the world - if you have earned less than you are insured for leading up to the claim, there is a strong chance youll be paid less; regardless what you are paying for. Even worse, if youre incapacitated, your partner/family/friends will have to run around on your behalf trying to find evidence of your income to provide to the insurer. Not fun APRA are also allowing insurers to review and change the definitions, terms and conditions on a policy every 5 years if they deem it necessary to meet their prudential duties, which is to remain viable & profitable. Current contracts are only allowed to change if it leaves the policy holder in a better position. So why am I telling you this? Well, Agreed contracts prior to 31 March, 2020, will be honoured as-is. It takes approximately 4 weeks to take out a new income protection policy. So, if you are currently uninsured or have an existing indemnity policy and want certainty at the time of claim, give me a call on 0412 204 456 and lets chat. 09.01.2022 Five tips to avoid being caught up in an investment scam: 1. Do not respond to emails or phone calls from strangers offering predictions on shares, investment tips or investment advice. 2. Always be suspicious of offers to sell you shares, cryptocurrency or a chance to take part in Binary Options Trading if you aren't the one seeking the offer to begin with.... 3. If someone is telling you about a way to make fast and easy money, ask yourself: Is this too good to be true? 4. Research thoroughly before investing and consider seeking independent financial advice from a licensed financial adviser (yours truly perhaps?). 5. Check out Moneysmarts list of companies you should not deal with below. If a company appears on this list, do not deal with them. They are unlicensed and have been known to make unsolicited calls and emails about financial services or products.

07.01.2022 Challenge: Direct 100% of your salary into a savings account and leave it there untouched for 6 months. Easy, right? Now picture this wasn't a choice and there was no magical savings account collecting unearned income. Picture you can't work due to a long-term injury or illness. 07.01.2022 From The Reformed Broker, Josh Brown: "Precisely eleven years ago today, in 2009, the stock market stopped going down. There was no reason. The dust had settled, without fanfare or any sort of official announcement. If you had polled people that day, or week or even month, most would not have agreed that we had seen the worst. The economic headlines were not improving. But there it was. And by June 1st, less than 3 months later, the stock market had climbed 41% from that March low."
