25.01.2022 Overseas voting now open for NZ election
23.01.2022 Way to go Marama Davidson MP! We have the bold new plan for an Aotearoa where all of us have what we need to thrive and where our precious wild places are protected for our kids and grandkids.
23.01.2022 Do you know how many years make up a generation? Yep, roughly about 30. So White fellas have been here in #australia for around 8 generations- and we claim a na...tional day of celebration for what we’ve achieved ( and yes there is much to celebrate). But infuriatingly, this day refuses to acknowledge the history and subsequent dispossession , mourning of our first Australians- a vibrant, rich ancient culture who have been here for not 8 generations, or 80, or 800, but nearly 2000 generations! Think about that for a second. 60000 years is a long, long time. Imagine the connection to country, the lives lived on this land, the laughs, dances, battles, struggles, grieving, loving and remembering that we are deliberately turning our backs on, not listening to. Not to mention the collective amnesia of our own atrocious history in the way we have and still treat our aboriginal community. Invasion Day rallies just keep getting bigger. It’s only a matter of time before we #changethedate It was a deadly day at #devonporttasmania Jan 26th this week. Big crowds and big vibe! After speaking at the rally ( and thanks to the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre who invited me) I took the opportunity to have a night to myself in aboriginal country-the #tassie forests, #tarkine #takayna ( swipe right) and grab a last wave before the Canberra bubble next week. Reflect on all this, and how if I can change over the course of my life so can others, so can my country . Next Tuesday when the #senate opens, we will do our standard acknowledgements of country ( after Lords Prayer!). We will pay our respects to elders past and present. But how has the institution of parliament shown their respect exactly? Mouthing a few words.. that’s enough? If we really wanted to show respect, we would finally enact a treaty with our First Nations community, then change our constitution to reflect this. And so much more. Many non indigenous Aussies such as myself might not share aboriginal blood, but we are increasingly sharing their broken hearts and hopes for recognition and justice. Now to get Governments to act! 23.01.2022 Australians are watching in horror, the world is watching in horror and Scott Morrison is silent on Donald Trump's dangerous, anti-democratic lies. This can’t continue. Scott Morrison needs to call Trump out.

21.01.2022 The Greens have written to the state’s Integrity Commission calling for an inquiry into the government's decision not to reveal the recipients of the highly controversial small business grants. Do you support the calls to have the grants made public? bit.ly/3k89A0Z

17.01.2022 Today we remember and pay respect. Not to justify, sanctify or glorify, for doing so would allow the violent cycle of war to continue we remember so we recommit to the only goal that serves as a fitting tribute to those who have given so much a world without war. Lest we forget.

12.01.2022 ACT Greens leader Shane Rattenbury MLA: "We promised Canberrans bold and decisive action on the issues facing our community. This means treating the climate cri...sis, the housing crisis and the jobs crisis as we have the COVID crisis. This Agreement is a real opportunity for us to get even more of this important work underway, to deliver a more sustainable future for all Canberrans. : ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr and ACT Greens Leader Shane Rattenbury sign the 'Parliamentary and Governing Agreement for the 10th Legislative Assembly'.
12.01.2022 Takayna Trail 2021 (ultramarathon event) Must Go Ahead for NW Economy Media release from Tas Greens 10 February 2021... Forestry Tasmania are working against the interests of the North West community by denying organisers of the takayna Trail 2021 ultra marathon access to the public lands they manage. The North West needs the economic boost the ultra marathon has brought in the past, especially as the region recovers from the devastating impact of the pandemic. The North West needs to be able showcase the takayna and generate revenue from the wilderness on their doorstep. This should be beyond politics and petty officialdom. Runners from across the country have registered for the ultra marathon. FT’s unexplained and unilateral decision will have damaging consequences for the region. It begs the question, are the Liberals letting down the regional economy in Braddon simply because the Bob Brown Foundation is organising this national sporting event? Premier Gutwein and his Resources Minister, Guy Barnett need to step in so the ultra marathon can go ahead for the benefit of the regional economy.
11.01.2022 Today we delivered an open letter to Premier Gutwein signed by 250 Tasmanian doctors and medical students calling for an end to native forest logging to protect... our health. Climate change, caused by greenhouse gas emissions, has been declared a health emergency by the Australian Medical Association and eight specialist medical colleges representing doctors from across the nation. Today’s open letter to the Tasmanian Premier has been signed by doctors from diverse specialties, including Emergency, General, Public Health and Palliative Care Physicians, General Practitioners, Surgeons, Psychiatrists, Anaesthetists, Paediatricians, junior medical staff and medical students. As doctors we have an ethical obligation to speak out about issues affecting health, just as we have in the past for tobacco and more recently with COVID-19. Native forests provide significant carbon offsets which must be urgently protected by ceasing logging. Tasmania's performance in the 2018 Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report demonstrates that native forestry retention has a significant role to play as we act to constrain carbon emissions responsible for climate change. As doctors our prescription to the Premier is to act upon the medical and scientific evidence on the climate health emergency. For the health, wellbeing, and prosperity of both current Tasmanians and future generations, we must end native forest logging. #politas Doctors for the Environment Australia Doctors for the Environment Tasmania Peter Gutwein
09.01.2022 You should not feel unsafe in your workplace. You should not be constantly retraumatised in your workplace. You should not have to plead for accountability in y...our workplace. But there’s an appalling culture that’s been left to fester in our Parliament House - a culture of racism, sexism and misogyny. It’s systemic. It’s toxic. It’s where violence starts. And it’s just not good enough. This place should be setting the standard.
08.01.2022 Greens will move to reverse today’s JobKeeper cuts when Parliament resumes next week. If we get enough support in Senate, we can stop the cuts. With unemploymen...t sky-high and our economy struggling, Scott Morrison shouldn’t fast-track cash handouts for Clive Palmer, but keep JobKeeper going instead. See more

07.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS - HIGH COURT WIN OVER ACLAND COAL MINE Farmers and community members from Queensland's Darling Downs have won a significant victory in the High Co...urt, which today ordered a fresh Land Court hearing into the controversial New Acland coal mine expansion. Our client, the Oakey Coal Action Alliance, has been locked in an epic legal battle to defend some of the best farming land in Queensland from New Acland Coal’s stage 3 expansion of its thermal coal mine on the Darling Downs, in the state’s south east. Today the High Court ordered a fresh hearing over the mine in the Queensland Land Court. It also ordered that New Acland Coal pay OCAA’s legal costs of the High Court appeal, and struck out an earlier costs order of approximately $736,000 against OCAA. This is a welcome decision from the High Court today," said EDO Managing Lawyer Sean Ryan. Our client and the other objectors can now look forward to the opportunity to present their evidence to a fresh Land Court of the impacts of this coal mine on the local farming area and on the rest of Queensland through climate change. 07.01.2022 Weeds are a huge problem all over the state and needs much more investment than currently available. I suggest that the state government should invest in a covi...d-19 recovery project aimed at employing suitable people to strategically tackle weeds. A win for the environment and meaningful job creation. See more

03.01.2022 Today is the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. Right now there are still about 13,400 of these weapons in existence. The use of ju...st one of them would change the face of our planet forever. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons exists in order to remove these weapons from every Nation, and it’s only 6 signatories away from the 50 it needs to be ratified. Australia should be one of those 6. We must sign and ratify this treaty, now, to create a future free from nuclear weapons. #BanTheBomb
01.01.2022 A big congratulations to Amy MacMahon, Greens for South Brisbane for her historic win in South Brisbane, and to Michael Berkman - Greens MP for Maiwar for retai...ning his seat of Maiwar with a massive swing. We’re still waiting to see what happens with the final count in seats like Cooper and McConnel but what’s clear is that our message resonated with Queenslanders they’re fed up with politics only working for big corporations and want to see a politics that works for ordinary people. The historic swings in these seats are the result of a massive people powered campaign with thousands of volunteers delivering our powerful message, chatting to people at their doors and on the phone. At the core of our platform is about ensuring that every Queenslander gets a share of our state’s enormous mining wealth. We’ve seen mining corporations export over $480 billion worth of resources offshore over the last 10 years and only pay 7% in royalties and it’s time for that to change. In that same period child poverty in Queensland reached 20% the highest in the country so we know Queenslanders aren’t getting their fair share. This election was about everyday Queenslanders vs mining billionaires. And Queenslanders are making their voice heard. Yesterday was just the beginning. Photo credit: Megan Keene keene-beans.com
