24.01.2022 Can't resist a Christmas sing-a-long? This is the group for you!
23.01.2022 Never underestimate the power of music, but especially the power of singing. All music tells a story. The difference is that with singing we get to add words to help our story along and make it even more powerful. The transformational power of music is proven by science but I also witness it week by week in rehearsals and count it as an honour and privilege to help others find themselves in and through our music. (And this particularly story below is even more powerful as I know it will have particular and personal resonance for one of our WESS members.)
23.01.2022 REVELATION #3 - OUR PERFORMANCE The motto of the West End Social Singers Pop-UP Choir is 'Christmas isnt Christmas until you hear the choir sing. We want to ensure that everyone gets to feel Christmassy so were taking our Christmas tunes to the streets - well actually to the park! Our big performance will be on Friday 14 December at the amazing The Sunset Social - one of West Ends most popular fortnightly events.... Held at Davies Park, Jane Street, West End, the evening will feature food trucks, bar, entertainment for the kids and an amazing and energetic Christmas performance - by YOU!! Whos in???? 22.01.2022 Although the Sunset Social event is our official debut, word got out about how much Christmas fun we were having with our pop-up choir and so we're excited to also be singing on Sunday 9 December at the Christmas Festival at BRISBANE POWERHOUSE. We'll be on around 5.45pm. If you get down there, we'll get you in the mood for Christmas!!! Thanks to The World Food Markets for inviting us to play!
21.01.2022 It's time to follow the Grinch's advice and start singing our Christmas songs loudly and proudly so that means it's time for the first Pop-Up Christmas Choir rehearsal!!!! When is it? Wednesday 7 Nov... 6-6.30pm - Doors open/registration 6.30-8.30pm - Rehearsal We recommend arriving close to 6 if you can to get through all the registration stuff Where is it? Souths Rugby League Club The Davies Park Market, 120 Jane St, West End Free parking is available at the venue as well as on surrounding streets. What do I need to bring? Bring your sense of humour and adventure, a water bottle, pencil and/or highlighter, $20 and we'll do the rest! How much does it cost? Our Christmas gift to you is that being part of the Pop-Up Choir just costs $20. This covers 6 weeks of rehearsals and everything else you'll need. You can pay by cash, credit or debit card on the night.
21.01.2022 Some of West End Social Singers went along and sang Christmas carols for the amazing volunteers that packed all these hampers. It was organised with military precision and we were so pleased to be a tiny part of it! Thanks Micah Projects for giving us a glimpse of this amazing touch of Christmas spirit.
21.01.2022 Something's coming!!! After the success of our Christmas pop up, we will be launching a new and funky pop choir in Brisbane at the end of January. We're struggling to find a rehearsal space at the moment but as soon as we do, you'll be the first to know! Like this page to stay in touch with the plans.
21.01.2022 We are official!! West End Social Singers is launched! We've just finished our first rehearsal and what a buzz! We had a great night with some awesome voices and great smiles. Three songs under our belt already!
20.01.2022 This may or may not be actual footage of our second rehearsal last night. But seriously, while everything that this group Voctave puts out is superb, this arrangement and performance has just lifted vocal singing to another level. I was left barely able to breath at the end. Don't attempt to watch this until you can be somewhere in silence with good speakers. It is just incredible. Who says Christmas carols are traditional and boring?!!

19.01.2022 So, this week is going to be a week of revelations! What we are, who we are, what we'll get up to, where we're going to rehearse and where we're going to be performing! Revelation #1 - What are we???? The idea behind the West End Social Singers Christmas Pop-Up Choir is to bring together a bunch of people who love to sing and / or who love Christmas for 6 funky, energetic and passionate rehearsals were well learn a bunch of pop, jazz and traditional Christmas songs in harm...ony. We dont care about your musical experience or even talent, we just care that you want to get off the sofa and come and sing with us! No more solos in the shower or the car - well give you a bunch of other like minded people to sing with in safety. No judgement, no being told you cant sing. At the end of the 6 rehearsals, youll have a load of new friends, some brand new Christmas songs youve never heard or sung before AND youll get to perform at least once if not twice!! Performing isnt compulsoary but as youll find out in tomorrows revelation, its something we love to do because it makes us feel so shiny and happy! Because this is a one-off community initiative, there is a just a one off fee of $20 to cover the boring stuff like insurances, licensing and printing. No other obligation before that. If at the end of the 6 weeks, we all love each other as much as I think we will, theres also a high chance that this will turn into a regular singing group in 2019 for those that just cant give it up!!

07.01.2022 It's hard to believe that our 6 week pop up choir is nearly over! Just one rehearsal to go and we're defintiely ready for Christmas now! We have had an absolute ball and have some amazing songs to share with you at The Sunset Social at Souths Leagues Club on Frday 14 December. We hope to see you there! Free event, open to all. Food trucks, bar, carols, Chirstmas tunes and even free circus activities!
04.01.2022 REVELATION #4 - How it's all going to work. The Christmas Pop-Up choir is a low, commitment, fun and funky singing group that will learn a bunch of Christmas songs to perform at the Sunset Social Christmas event in West End on Friday 14 December. You dont need to attend every rehearsal and you dont need to perform although we know that youll be more confident the more you come and that youll have so much fun performing with us.... Because we are open to anyone regardless of singing experience, and we only have 6 weeks of rehearsals, our arrangements will be fairly simple and effective and will include some pop and jazz Christmas songs as well as a few traditional carols. You dont need to be able to read music as Jaq will teach it all by ear and there will be some learning tracks available for those that want to practice in their own time. We work with backing tracks or sing a cappella and we guarantee youll learn some Christmas songs that youve never sung before! Not just the same old, same old. All you have to do is rock up to rehearsal, pay your one-off fee of $20 to cover insurance, printing and licenses and youre away. Well do everything else bar the singing - you do have to do that too! If youre thinking about coming along and checking it all out, it would be REALLY helpful for us to know youre coming. 02.01.2022 REVELATION#2 - WHO ARE WE? Never heard of West End Social Singers or the pop-up choir before? Thats ok, its because it didnt exist until an idea was born a few weeks ago! West End Social Singers is a new group and is the brain child of Jacqueline (or Jaq, never Jacqui!) Larsen. Jaq is an extremely passionate and energetic director of pop choirs (Edinburgh, Perth and Cairns). As the photos below clearly show, she is the Queen of making stupid faces when singing and/or dire...cting and you will never see her performing without a pair of fabulous shoes. She doesnt take herself too seriously although treats the running of choirs a bit like an addiction (for which she possibly needs professional help!). She is passionate about getting people singing as she knows from personal experience the physical, social and emotional benefits of singing in a group. Dont believe us? One of her current members recently made her blush by saying: "Jacqueline Larsen is an amazing singer, musician and a determined and beautiful person. She is a strong and passionate leader who infects everyone with her enthusiasm and energy. Was that just a definition of the best choir master around? Come and find out for yourselves!
