23.01.2022 Hey everyone, to help our fundraising WA Alpaca Youth is one of the selected Local Matters jars at Grill'd Cockburn for October. Why not head on down, have some burgers with your friends and family, and drop your vote in our jar.

23.01.2022 WA Alpaca Youth and Banksia Park Alpaca Stud visited Coodanup College last Wednesday to teach their year 7-10 agriculture students about alpacas (and as a treat for some students). It was great seeing these young people get involved, especially those who've never interacted with an alpaca before. Thanks for having us :)

22.01.2022 If you're interested in attending the NSW youth camp in January 2020 please let me know. Depending on numbers from WA we may be able to assist with cost subsidies for flights. :)

22.01.2022 For those of you interested in farming more generally here's a one-day conference (Wednesday 11 Sept 2019) that you may be keen to attend.

21.01.2022 Great job by the young alpaca judges today at the Perth Royal Show, especially Jonee as our WA representative.

20.01.2022 Hey everyone. From today and for the entire month of August, Australian Alpaca Association Youth Education is on a Local Matters jar at Grilld Cockburn! Local Matters is the Grilld community donation program that sees each Grilld restaurant donate $500 back into the community every month. The donation is split between 3 local community groups $300 / $100 / $100 (whoever gets the highest number of tokens by the end of August receives the largest donation). Wed love your support in receiving the highest $300 donation! Simply head to Grilld Cockburn during August for a burger and pop your Local Matters token in our jar.

19.01.2022 The Alpaca Junior Handlers training event was held at Honkynut Hill Alpacas on Sun 4th Aug. Hoping to see these guys at the Perth Royal Show in the Junior handling competition on Mon 30th Sept There will be another training session at Honkynut Hill on Sat 14th Sept if you missed out this time. No experience needed just a love of Alpacas See more

14.01.2022 Safety is an important part of farming that's often overlooked to 'just get things done'. Safe Ag WA is running a photo competition for high school students to help us focus on safety first. Anyone keen to enter?

14.01.2022 Photos from our junior handlers competition at the Perth Royal Show yesterday. We had about 20 competitors, which is a massive turnout compared to previous years. Congratulations everyone

11.01.2022 Some thoughts on the benefits of Showmanship competitions.

10.01.2022 Unfortunately this applies to our youth events too. Stay safe everyone.

10.01.2022 Our friends over in NSW have some tips for paraders for you. Is there anything else you'd like to see them make a video about?

10.01.2022 For those of you who aren't at school, Muresk is holding a free one day showcase next week on tech in ag.

10.01.2022 Hi all. The Perth Royal Show is on again this September school holidays (28 Sept to 5 Oct 2019). The Royal Agricultural Society of WA (RASWA) are looking for volunteers to help out with a variety of activities like helping at the gates, in the animal petting areas, or with educational exhibits. Plus you get free entry to the show! The minimum age to volunteer is 12 years old and they would like volunteers to attend for a minimum of three shifts (morning or afternoon) over the week. Training is provided. For more information visit their website: https://www.perthroyalshow.com.au/about-us/volunteers/

09.01.2022 Hi all. We've put together a flyer of WA alpaca youth events over the next few months. If you're interested let me know! :)

07.01.2022 The University of WA will be holding a free industry forum on Thursday 25 July from 1.30pm that you may be interested in. See the flyer for more details.

07.01.2022 We'll be at the John Wollaston ACS 30th Anniversary School Fair on 11 May with Honkynut Hill Alpacas. Come down and say hi, ask us any questions you've got, and meet our fleecy friends.

06.01.2022 When someone asks if you're into alpacas or llamas you can show them this picture. Can you spot the banana ears, long face, and massive size difference between them?

06.01.2022 Our friends over in NSW are holding their alpaca summer camp again this year on Jan 18 and 19. See the video below for an idea of the fun things campers do. The WA Alpaca Youth group is keen to support a young person (and maybe more) to attend this event. If you're interested let us know and we'll get our fundraising hats on together.

05.01.2022 Great words from a great mind, thanks Andrew Munn for sharing them. This is exactly what we're trying to do with Alpaca Youth Education in WA and Australia. Slowly but surely building something great!

05.01.2022 Are you interested in alpacas but don't have any of your own? Not sure if you're ready for a heavy commitment to alpacas but would like to dip your toes in the water? Then why not consider volunteering at one of our shows. We have shows in WA throughout the year that you can volunteer at. In 2019 we have - Warren Districts in March, - Serpentine Jarrahdale and Gidgegannup in May, ... - the Perth Royal in late September, and - Albany in early November. Volunteers can help with set up, marshalling, animal handling support, showing in the ring, record keeping, or other activities. If you're keen to get involved let us know and we'll see how best to fit you in. We are also happy to provide handling training in advance if you'd like some.

05.01.2022 Not all alpaca youth education is formal, sometimes its just about meeting an alpaca for the first time. Paul (from Mamoes alpaca farm stay & Traveling alpacas all occasions) is one of our WA breeders whos out and about teaching the community about these intelligent creatures. He recently visited Edith Cowan University (ECU) Joondalup with two alpacas for their Stress Less day. 1000 people in 3 hours came to say hello, take photos, and ask questions about the animals like do they spit, are they llamas, and will they bite? Thanks for your work Paul. Who knows, maybe there were future alpaca enthusiasts in that crowd. Were you one of them?

04.01.2022 Great day for youth today with our handlers events at The Albany Agricultural Show. We even got to compete against the experienced breeders in a timed handlers course and show them how it's done.

04.01.2022 The magic of shows and animals helping boost morale over east.

03.01.2022 We've been quiet for a while but have some great news to share - the Perth Royal Show will be held at it's usual time this year! We'll let you know more about what that means for our alpaca youth in the next few weeks.
