20.01.2022 Today is RUOK DAY - 'THERE'S MORE TO SAY AFTER R U OK?' 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. We can all help Australians know what to say when someone says they’re not OK and guide them through how they can continue a conversation that could change a life. You don’t have to be an expert to keep the conversation going ...when someone says they’re not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before they’re in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life. The RUOK Team and CEO Katherine are great friends of ours and I want to promote and share the message. Links to the school downloadable toolkits here: https://www.ruok.org.au/education How to be a good friend and ask R U OK? this is for K-6 Together it’s OK! music video for K-6 some schools get their students to copy the dance and film it How to ask a schoolmate R U OK? this is for High Schools Short version of above R U OK? encourages teachers to embed the activities into existing comprehensive units of work that contain content which includes themes such as friendship, resilience, respectful relationships, help seeking, mental health and wellbeing. The ready-to-use toolkits are open-source and include fact sheets, activities, videos and newsletter hints. https://www.ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day

15.01.2022 National NAIDOC Week 2020 celebrations will be held from the 8-15 November. The November dates follow the decision by the National NAIDOC Committee (NNC) to pos...tpone NAIDOC Week from the original July dates due to the impacts and uncertainty from the escalating Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic across our communities and cities. The postponement was aimed at protecting our elders and those in our communities with chronic health issues from the disastrous impacts of COVID19. As cooler weather approaches the need to protect our most susceptible remains. Further announcements regarding the National NAIDOC Awards and the reactivation of the 2020 NAIDOC Local Grants Round will be made within coming weeks. The NNC understands that the July dates for NAIDOC may still be acknowledged by communities and organisations, however we are mindful that those celebrations and physical gatherings will still be impacted by the various State and Territory COVID19 restrictions and social distancing measures. We acknowledge the commitment and tireless work of the many State, Territory, regional and local NAIDOC Committees, organisations and individuals whose passion each year makes NAIDOC Week an outstanding success. We thank you for your understanding and working with us during these uncertain times. The NNC are continuing to work with our partners and key stakeholders to make NAIDOC Week 2020 a suitable and fitting celebration of #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

13.01.2022 We’re committed to investing in schools all across the State to ensure every student receives a quality education, no matter where they live. Part of this commi...tment includes revitalising older public schools to ensure that students at those schools get access to the same kind of facilities, technology and opportunities as the students at brand new high schools. That’s why I’m very proud to be delivering our election commitment to invest $50 million in the redevelopment of John Forrest Secondary College in Morley. New state-of-the-art facilities to be constructed include: - A Performing Arts Centre incorporating dance, drama, media, music and visual arts facilities; Food, Textiles and IT Centre, including a new student cafeteria; Materials Technology Centre, including building and construction, woodwork, metalwork, engineering, robotics and megatronics; sports hall/gymnasium, two new external turf areas; and tennis, netball and basketball courts. The project also includes refurbishing existing facilities, such as the transformation of the existing library to new administration facilities, the existing sports hall to a library, and modern upgrades to specialist and general classrooms. Other refurbishments include science laboratories, staff study areas and the staffroom. It will create about 1,300 jobs for the Western Australian economy and works are expected to be completed by 2023. These impressive upgrades ensure we give children the best possible opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that fosters innovation and collaboration. By investing in school upgrades and redevelopments like these we help boost jobs while ensuring school facilities are modernised and provides capacity for future generations.
