25.01.2022 WSCL SUMMER COMP WESTERN STRIKERS VS WESTERN SPARTANS W SPARTANS lost the toss & were asked to bat first and scored 221/5 in 25 overs.... W STRIKERS scored 186 all out in 23 overs. MOM: Karandeep who scored a brilliant 153 off 89 deliveries. Team Western Spartans came back to winning ways when they beat Team Western Strikers by 35 runs last Sunday. After a rather poor show in their last match, the team came back strongly and did what they do best, i.e score plethora of runs and ask the bowlers to defend it. It was a perfect example of team work on display when Western Spartans were playing with just 9 players. With 2 players short, it was a powerplay till 19th over for Western Strikers. The players were short but not the confidence and team work. The 9 players on the field made it look like 19 for Western Strikers. A shaky start by Western Spartans after losing their captain rather cheaply in just the second over of the match, was overcomed by the rockstar of the team - Karandeep who once again displayed sensational strokeplay and contributed in making the bulk of the team’s total. He scored a magnificent 153 off mere 89 balls. He was offered little help from Karanpreet and the tailenders to post this mammoth total on the board. Western Strikers started off well with their opener Sandip Patel scoring a brisk half century and just when he was looking threatening, was stumped brilliantly by our captain Parminder. Spinners again did what they are good at, taking a plethora of wickets. Baurel D’mello took 3/25 in his spell of 3 overs along with skippers Parminder Jandu who took 3/10 in just 2 overs which helped to turn the game towards Western Spartans. Eshan the express bowler 4/28/1 and Rajbir brar 5/25/0 bowled with some sensibility as their were only 9 players on the field for the Spartans. Karanpreet also came out shining this time with hands in keeping by taking an unbelievable catch and a stumping. Not a great day for musa but he doesnt need any tag as he had already shown his talent in the previous matches. The performance shown by the team is appreciable largely because of the way they came back from a crushing defeat from the last match. Even though the tailenders are not getting enough chances in batting to show the magic from their talent bag, they are proving it all in fielding. Not to be missed our two Jhonty Rhodes (Gurbhej singh and Pradeep Karinja) have shown their exceptional skill in fielding. It was also a learning curve for some of our boys who didn’t have a good day on the field and would be eager to change that in the next match.

25.01.2022 A season to remember for Western Spartans was ended in a loss recently by the hands of the mighty Auspak in the quarterfinals. With the team Spartans making a comeback after a long time into the tournament, they shocked everyone with their brilliant display upfront. Their batting clicked, so did their bowling barring a few failures and rustiness here and there. There were many shining stars of the team who did extremely well on occasions including Baurel, Karandeep, Parminder...Continue reading

15.01.2022 After an unforgettable summer season by team Western Spartans ended in a heartbreaking loss against Auspak who went to become the champions, Spartans is all geared up for the upcoming Winter season. Though the team would be missing on quite a few of their players who played the summer season, a couple of new players sure do add up some spice to the team. The team is all geared up to perfom well in the league and the team is eager to get past the quarterfinals this time around.... It’s important to learn from the mistakes committed at crunch moments in the previous league and important for each and every individual to value the importance of their wicket. With fielding being an essential part of the game of cricket, team Spartans would like to improve a bit in nourishing their skills in the outfield. It’s never too late to improve and that is what the team would love to do. Earlier, the players were thrilled to receive their trophies from last season. Those trophies are a result of their hard work and the team would like to get many more of these trophies in the winter league. The team needs each and every individual to stand up and play for the team as responsible sportsman. Team Spartans understands that sometimes an individual brilliance can be overshadowed by the team’s overall performance but the players are matured enough to take that positively and always put the team ahead of any personal milestone. This is the time though to relish the individual performances of some of the players which led to many victories for the team. Below are the Man of the Match trophies awarded to some of our players last season. Many congratulations to them. #GoSpartans

11.01.2022 Round 7 18/02/2018 Western Spartans v/s Melbourne Bashers Western Spartasns won the toss and elected to bat first.... Western Spartans 123/9 in 23.2 overs Melobourne Bashers 127/5 in 23 overs Melbourne Bashers won the match by 5 wickets. Team Western Spartans was shamed by team Melbourne Bashers last Sunday when after they won the toss, elected to bat first and were bundled out for a meagre 123. It was a case of complete failure by the batsmen who were completely baffled by the perfect line and lengths bowled by the Bashers. The bowlers were running the show as thr batsmen were just dancing on their tunes and soon were just playing the blocking game. Mussadiq was first to go in the third over without much score to show for himself. The captain who won the man of the match trophy in the previous match had a total disastrous day on the field this week. He couldn’t get going as he struggled to even rotate the strike. Soon after he was dismissed cheaply, Bashers started to run through tha batting line up of Spartans as they accounted for the wickets of Omair and Sunny in quick intervals. The star for the Spartans was Pradeep who once again did what he does the best - get his team out of trouble by rotating strike and hitting an occasional boundary on getting a bad ball. Pradeep’s heroics made sure that Spartans put up atleast a 100 on the board. A run a ball 41 by him was ably supported by Bimal’s 22. Varinder played some shorts in the end to take the Spartans to 123. With 2 fielders short, this was too much to ask from the bowlers to defend this low total. But to everyone’s surprise, Spartans bowlers were getting right under the skins of the Bashers batsmen. The tight bowling along with some crucial wickets here and there meant that the team Bashers weren’t off to a flier and runs started to dry up. But with just 123 to get, run rate was never a problem for the Bashers as they grinded in and saw through the tough spells of Varinder and Manoj (Abhi) who were exceptional with the bowl and bowled a terrific spell. If team Spartans had an outside chance of winning, it was because of the brilliant bowling by these two. The match could have gone either way at the mid but team Bashers were on course to win this one who were aided by their skipper, not in the batting/bowling/fielding department but in the umpiring department when he turned down a strong and a good looking appeal for stumping. With even luck going Bashers way, it was a total failure by the Spartans. Even with the bowlers trying hard to revert the inevitable, they were left disappointed with just 9 fielders on the field. It was a team failure and actually an eye opener and we hope this was the last hiccup before the eliminators. Hope the best for Spartans.
