12.01.2022 Tomorrow is the big day when we will announce our finalists for the Western Sydney University 2020 Sculpture Award and Exhibition! We asked one of our esteemed judges Nigel Harrison to give us his thoughts on the entries this year. "What clearly became evident for each chosen work was for the importance of each sculpture to stand in its own truthfulness. This is in relation to the synergy of methodologies used to form the work, the innate aesthetic qualities of materials and... the genre acknowledging the cannons of art history. The potency of human touch has enabled this group of sculptures to have a sense of purpose, demonstrating a critical dialogue between the sculpture and the object in the making. Our job as judges was to collaborate within as much reasoning and certainty, to bring to WSU park, a community of sculptures that have a joy and poetry to celebrate our differences and embrace our humanity. The ambience spaces within the sculpture park offer contemplation, where the nature and the character of the work, not only can reveal the human touch but hopefully the dimensions of thought compelling an empathic relationship with the sculptures themselves. The truthfulness of a sculptures integrity only reveals itself after a number of viewings, where intimacy is formed and the poetry transcends to the viewers world of existence becoming a familiar friend". #WSUSculpture WSUsculptureprize
