24.01.2022 Despite the challenging season, optimism shone through at the recent 2019 Darling Downs Cotton Growers Awards Night. Very proud of our local cotton industry for looking foward with positivity. Congrats to Georgie Krieg, Allyse Zester McVeigh, Ryan family and all the committee, Vanderfield and all the sponsors, Porter and Wood and Love Henry for a great night of fashions and fun, with hardworking farmers and industry folk receiving acknowledgement. Thanks also to Mary O'Brien sharing her moving prose and the important messages of Are you bogged mate? We also shared some of our "Dear Farmer" poems on the tables, if you missed out and would like a copy, just PM us and we'll pop one in the post for you. [Photo credit MRP Images]

23.01.2022 Community Spirit, Credibility, Common Sense and Compassion. COMPASSION might seem like a strange thing to stand for, but I'm quite determined that if I have th...e privilege of being one of your new 2020 Western Downs Councillors, we don't ignore the social challenges our region is facing. We can have all the best roads and waste facilities, but if we don't care for the people who use them, what is the point? At the same time, please don't be misled into thinking that I'm all about the "soft stuff". With a farming background, tertiary qualifications, 28 years of business experience, I'm not afraid to ask the tough questions. My career has seen me regularly take complex issues or ideas, research and explore them, apply critical thought, and discern the fact from rhetoric. We need to apply COMMON SENSE to our decision making. It's great to see Council in a strong financial position, but this can't come at the expense of necessary services and infrastructure. I've been very proud to play an active role in our region's sporting, arts, faith and business communities since my family moved here in 1981. Over the past few months, it's been such a blessing to get out and meet new people, and learn more about our towns and districts. I've had the opportunity to look at things with fresh eyes, however I still have SO much more to learn. This is a huge region, with a lot of complexities. But I'm prepared to hit that learning-curve head on. I believe a true Councillor is someone who is prepared to listen to you, to represent you, and stand up for 'what matters to you'. I'm excited about this opportunity to combine my personal and professional experiences to serve my community. As Condoleezza Rice once said "There's no greater challenge and there is no greater honour than to be in public service." If you'd like to learn more about my background and experience, and why I'm standing please go to www.mjforwdrc.com.au #mjforwdrc (Authorised by Megan James, 92 Seymours Road, Dalby.)

22.01.2022 THE TRUCK DRIVER You say because I'm a truck driver, all I do is sit down all day and that my truck is a road hazard. You're right, I do sit all day; but I sit ...and see the problems with the world from behind the steering wheel. I see the young mother texting and driving with her child in the car. I see the drunk driver returning from a night out. I see the impatience to save five seconds. I see the teen boy trying to impress a girl by speeding recklessly in and out of traffic, without knowing that is the reason I had to see the first responders close a body bag last week. I see high school girls begging for attention by flashing their bodies. I see the lover quarrels and romantic kisses. I've seen things that allow me to see your next move on the road. I've seen so many things that very few things I see surprise me anymore. All you see is that I'm a truck driver and my truck is a road hazard; but on behalf of all my brothers and sisters, my workmates, my employers, my family, I see a nation in denial. SHARED FROM AARON SONTER

06.01.2022 Stoked to get our hands on a couple of these Rite Mate Pilbara Collection shirts made from Australian grown cotton - top quality and very soft. Awesome circle of life moment to know that while carting cotton we’re wearing shirts made of cotton we cart. You can even check the bale number on the tag to see which region your shirt was grown from. These are grown by our mates just over the border at Narrabri and Moree.. might have to keep buying shirts ‘til we get a Dalby one!

03.01.2022 A note from Megan.... just did quick dash to meet up with Breza Camp Director to hand over some parts and supplies for the contracting team... also packed a little treat for the boys

01.01.2022 Cotton carting for the 2020 season kicked off for us today. Looking at a very short stint this year. In good times we would be going day-and-night for a couple of months. This season, due to the ongoing impacts of drought, it’s likely to be all cleaned up (during daylight hours) over a couple of weeks. Our thoughts go out to all the farmers, especially those who missed on a decent summer crop and are now battling to get a viable winter crop. While the world looks forward to getting back to some normality post-COVID, we’re looking forward to one day getting back to a normal cotton season with farms, gins, transport operators and local service providers and retailers buzzing with employment and action... the flow-on effect of cotton production.
