11.01.2022 A question we get asked about quite a bit is what is an acceptable outfit to wear at a western dressage competition. The beauty of western dressage is that you ...can bling it up as much as you want, or, opt for more conservative (less bling) attire. First things first: you can wear a safety helmet (encouraged and preferred) or a western style hat. Just a hint: if you wear a western hat try and tie it in to the rest of your outfit. Your shirt or top needs to be a Western style long-sleeved shirt with any type of collar and Western style trousers. The rules also allow for a one piece long sleeved Western equitation suit provided it includes a collar. Boots must have a well defined square cut heel. Here are some random images of western dressage outfits that are all permitted. The key message is your gear - for you and your horse should be neat and tidy.
