The newspaper industry has been under considerable strain over the last five to ten years. However, thanks to our loyal readers, strong support from local businesses, and an extremely hardworking and committed team (Lorraine, Sheryl and Lee), The Westerner has withstood many challenges. But we can endure no more.... We hope you enjoyed the stories about the local community, just as much as we enjoyed creating them. We know, with some pride, we have become a local household name, and it has been very warming to be embraced by the community. To our advertisers, we thank you for your ongoing business, for being the financial backbone of The Westerner. We hope, in turn, you enjoyed the advertising and editorial support we gave you. We encourage everyone to continue to support local independent media. As major organisations continue to either buy out or crush much smaller competitors, it has become more important than ever to rally behind strong independent community voices local newspapers. Farewell, The Westerner team
