25.01.2022 Principal’s Morning Tea: On Friday 16th October Western Grammar School held its second Principal's Morning tea, to celebrate the exceptional behaviour and consistent effort of students at the school. Two students per class were selected and were honoured with a framed hadith and a delicious morning tea, in recognition of their outstanding achievements. The goal for this event was to encourage and motivate students who always reflect a high standard of Islamic ethos in class.... That being, displaying respectful Islamic manners and behaviour, as well as following in the footsteps of our beloved Prophet Muhammed (s) and striving with effort to achieve goals. Principal Irfan Afzal celebrated with students over morning tea giving praise, support and advice to motivate students in continuing to use their skills and character traits, as lifelong learners and positive contributors of our local communities. Congratulations to these students and their families.

23.01.2022 Special thanks to Plumpton High Our Assistant Principal, Zuky Malik, thanked Plumpton High School ‘s Principal, Tim Lloyd, for allowing our students to sit the HSC exams along with their students. A certificate of appreciation and baclava sweets were presented as a token of thanks. Mr Malik was accompanied by the outgoing school captain, Saliha and two HSC students. They were the final batch of WGS students to complete their chemistry HSC exams today.

22.01.2022 Alhamdulillah Qurban meat was handed out to needy families in Yemen. Paid for by generous donations collected at WGS by students and staff.



21.01.2022 Principal’s Morning Tea Today Western Grammar School held a "Principal's Morning Tea" to recognise the efforts and exceptional behaviour of students across the primary and high school in term 2. Students were selected based on two integral skill-sets:... 1. Students who consistently work hard and put in a great amount of effort into class work. 2. Students who consistently display respectful behaviour in class. The students were presented with individual frames, with an Islamic quote encapsulating their unique characteristic and achievements. They were then served a delicious morning tea as part of the celebration. WGS Principal, Mr Irfan Afzal and staff were honoured to host an event that celebrated the efforts of these students. The school aims to develop students holistically, to become positive contributors to Australian communities Insha'Allah. Well done to all students. We are proud of you and you too should be proud of these efforts.

20.01.2022 MaashaAllah, another student in Year 3 has successfully graduated from Iqra (Books 1-6) to the Qur'an. She was presented with a personalised copy of the Qur'an and awarded a graduating certificate at this morning’s assembly. May Allah bless her, her parents and her teachers. Well done Sara!

19.01.2022 Sponsor our Write a Book in a Day Teams On Thursday the 27th of August, there will be two teams representing Western Grammar School in the national writing competition called 'Write a Book in a Day'. In this competition, students only have a maximum of 12 hours to write, illustrate and submit a book following specific parameters. As part of the competition, each team needs to raise at least $240 for The Kids' Cancer Project to ensure their book is eligible to be judged and be... in the running for a state or national award. 18.01.2022 Year 12 Graduation It was a bitter sweet day today for our Year 12 students. We bid them farewell in a warm graduation ceremony with their parents and loved ones in the virtual audience. We pray that Allah (swt) guides our graduates and grants them success in their upcoming exams and in the greater test of life. We ask Allah to accept the efforts of their families and teachers as a form of sadaqah jariyah (ongoing charity). ... To all our current and former students, remember the advice of Sh Abdullah Hakeem: many people cannot read the Quran to learn about Islam but they can read you, so be the best example of a Muslim.

18.01.2022 Science Week Primary Awards In celebration of National Science Week - with a theme of "Deep Blue", students at WGS were involved in developing models of a current global issue affecting the ocean. With the aim of encouraging innovative solutions to these issues, students were asked to research, plan, design and construct their models to become agents for change. ... A judging panel was selected and the top 3 students from K-2 and years 3-6 were selected as winners for their innovation, scientific knowledge and design.

18.01.2022 SCIENCE WEEK AT WESTERN GRAMMAR SCHOOL 2020 Last week was Science Week 2020 at Western Grammar School - a spectacular experience. Students from kindergarten to year 12 were engaged in a series of activities based on the topic Deep Blue: innovation for the future of our oceans. The aim was to make science available and accessible to all students. Science is an area of study that can change the world and we want our children to be the leaders of tomorrow.... Our high school students converted their classrooms into museums addressing the issues in our oceans including; the dilemma of plastics, the bleaching of our reefs, oil spills and overfishing. They became the educators and the advocates for change. Our Primary students created innovative models to demonstrate possible solutions for the future of our oceans. Overall, every moment of science week was a memorable experience! The science department would like to thank all of the students, teachers and staff who made the experience possible. 17.01.2022 Special Assembly: Today, as we celebrated Eid Al-Adha with students beautifully dressed in their Eid clothing, WGS held a special assembly to announce the winners of the Quran Competition 2020. It was a very difficult task for the judges as all students recited tremendously well. Certificates, prize packs and cash prizes were given to all the runners up with additional trophies, medals, and higher cash prizes for the winners. ... We congratulate all the winners and runners up and we encourage everyone to try even harder to make it through to the final round next year. We would also thank the Islamic department team for organising this event and to the parent donor who donated extra cash to further increase the prize money for all participants.

16.01.2022 Bio and SOR Excursion WGS Year 12 Biology and Studies of Religion students went on an excursion to Taronga Zoo in Sydney. We investigated heredity and reproduction in organisms, as well as the environmental ethics when dealing with the captivity of animals. We also toured the zoo and saw a plethora of wildlife from the infuriated chimpanzees to the majestic Bongo. ... During a very informative presentation, we were educated on the behind the scenes work done by the zoo which revolves around the study and conservation of animal species, such as the correboree frog. 15.01.2022 WGS HSC Graduates: Where are they now? We are extremely proud of our HSC graduates and their pursuits after completing school. Attached is a list of studies they are currently undertaking. We wish them all the best in their endeavours and pray that Allah (swt) grants them the success they deserve.

14.01.2022 Character Parade 2020 Yesterday, Primary students at Western Grammar School held its annual Character Parade in celebration of Book Week. This year a large emphasis was made on creativity of costume design, through home-made and recycled materials. Students began the morning by walking the red carpet class by class, to show-case their costumes. Prizes were given out to students in each class for their outstanding efforts in costume designs that were linked to book character...s. WGS teachers also joined in the celebrations, by dressing up in various book characters. Students were able to take pictures with friends and teachers, with a photo booth set up to capture these memories. We thank all families for their support with the students in making this an enjoyable day for all.

14.01.2022 International Teachers Day Hanna, a cheerful WGS student in Year 4 currently volunteers with a local charity called Little Helpers. She presented to her class teach Ms Sungkar a gift bag of chocolates and hand-made cards produced by herself and other volunteers. This was to mark the occasion of International Teachers Day. Her teacher was drawn to tears with emotion at the beautiful gesture of appreciation. Well done Hanna!

14.01.2022 New Captains and Vice-Captains It's been an eventful start to Term 4. While our 2020 captains and cohort step into the final chapter of their Year 12 journey with the HSC exams, our class of 2021 celebrates the election of the new school captains and vice-captains. 09.01.2022 Primary students who successfully completed the Iqra book 6, graduating on to the Quran were presented their awards and personalised copies of the Quran this morning during the assembly.

09.01.2022 Today was a reminder of how time flies and how fast students grow. Some of our pioneering students took the stage to campaign for the positions of WGS school captain. We had 7 brave candidates stand before their peers and explain why they would make a good leader. On Monday morning, we will find out who our 2021 Captains and Vice Captains will be. Stay tuned!

07.01.2022 Year 12 Celebration Dinner Last night WGS held its inaugural Year 12 Celebration Dinner, marking the completion of the HSC exams and thirteen years of schooling for its third cohort of graduates. The stellar event included speeches, awards, an entertaining video, gifts and a fair amount of farewell tears and best wishes. Parents, teachers, board members and friends spent a warm and enjoyable evening celebrating with graduates the end of a journey and the start of a new chapter in their young lives. We wish them well for the future and pray that Allah (swt) guides them to what is best.

07.01.2022 Lebanon Fundraiser Alhamdulillah students and staff of Western Grammar School raised $8,000 for the Lebanon Crisis Appeal organised by a group of Year 7 students. These students were affected by the devastating bombing incident and wanted to do something to help. They motivated students and staff to donate and also ran a desserts stall. Significantly, two classes collected more than $1,000 each - Year 6 and Year 10. Well done to all students who demonstrated their generosity... and concern for those less fortunate. The money collected was handed over to a local charity, AusRelief and two representatives were in attendance today to accept the donation. The charity will ensure that the money is used to provide much needed emergency health care in Beirut.

04.01.2022 Quran Competition Finals Yesterday WGS held its annual Quran Competition Finals for 2020. The students who made it to the final stage did an outstanding job reciting from memory to the best of their abilities. We are extremely proud of their efforts and want to congratulate them for their achievements. Parents were able to view their child’s recitation online via video link. Alhamdulillah this was a good option for parents and feedback has been positive. ... The judges will now tally the results and announce the winners at a special assembly next week with certificates to be given to all students who participated. The biggest achievement for all participants is seeking to please Allah (swt) by reading His Noble Book. We ask Allah to bless all our students and increase their love for the Quran. Ameen.

04.01.2022 Hajj Presentation On Monday 2nd of August, WGS held a special Hajj presentation for the entire school. With the help of some students, a step by step guide of Umrah and Hajj was explained and a demonstration of how to put on an Ihram was shown. With Hajj lessons in Islamic Studies, Hajj themes, and the presentation, our students have gained a good amount of knowledge and insight into how to perform the pilgrimage, a fundamental pillar of Islam. ... May Allah bless us all to visit His house and to perfom the Hajj pilgrimage soon.

02.01.2022 WGS donates to House of Sakina Two representatives from the local charity, House of Sakina, visited our school today to receive the amount of $2,700 donated by students and staff. Our Year 1 class raised the most and were happy to present the donation to the charity. The money will be used to support their work helping women in need with food, clothing and accomodation. Thank you for the generosity of all those who gave.

01.01.2022 Today marked the introduction of Western Grammar School’s first ever Peer Support Program. The program is designed to develop various leadership skills in our Year 10 students, who will act as buddies to our Year 6 students. The Program also allows for our Year 6 students to develop cooperation, team building skills and enhance healthy relationships that will benefit them as they transition into High School next year.
