24.01.2022 For children presenting to the Sunshine Hospital Emergency Department, bright lights, unfamiliar sounds and smells and strange faces can lead to heightened levels of anxiety and distress, often making it harder for our treating teams to administer the care and treatment they need. 22.01.2022 Western Health Board Director Tricia Malowney OAM has joined the the WalkWest Virtual Landmarks Challenge. Tricia was one of the first babies ever born at Footscray Hospital in 1954, which officially opened in 1955, back when the new hospital was still training staff. At just 4 months old, Tricia contracted polio and now walks with assistance.... Polio has never slowed her down, and she has worked tirelessly to support disability advocacy her whole life. By joining the WalkWest Virtual Landmarks Challenge, Tricia is planning to walk every day in November to raise funds and awareness of the work that Western Health has done on the frontline of the COVID pandemic. Always one to aim higher than required, Tricia has set herself the extraordinary target of walking the equivalent of two marathons (84km) for WalkWest Virtual Landmarks Challenge. 11.01.2022 Congratulations to Bich Cam Nguyen, Founder and CEO of the Australian Vietnamese Women's Association and a major supporter of Western Health, who has been named as 2021 Senior Australian of the Year for Victoria. One of four Victorians shortlisted for the honour, Cam will now represent Victoria as nominee for the Senior Australian of the Year, with the winner announced on Australia Day 2021. As founder of the Vietnamese Friendly Society and the Australian Vietnamese Women's A...ssociation Inc., Cam has made a significant contribution to assisting refugees and migrants to feel welcomed and empowered. As a leader within the Melbourne Vietnamese community, Cam was influential in securing support for the 2015 Sunshine Hospital Critical Care Appeal and more recently the Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Appeal.
