25.01.2022 Fetal well being part 2 @westernimagingforwomen The amniotic fluid index is another parameter we check to assess fetal wellbeing. The amniotic fluid index or AFI tells us about placental function, kidney function and growth restriction. The amniotic fluid is very important as baby will drink and breathe the fluid to help the development of the lungs, bowel and kidneys. Baby will urinate the fluid and the cycle continues...charming huh?... #westernimagingforwomen See more

21.01.2022 We can perform ultrasounds on twin pregnancies at any of the stages of pregnancy including for: Early pregnancy, First trimester Morphology scan, Mid-trimester Morphology scan,Third trimester In addition to this, we pay special attention to the placentas and sacs of the twins to determine if they are sharing a placenta or whether there are two separate placentas. The type of twins a mother has will determine the frequency and degree of monitoring required for the pregnancy.... At Western Imaging for Women, our fetal medicine specialist obstetricians have particular expertise in managing twin pregnancies. We recommend that otherwise uncomplicated twin pregnancies with separate placentas (dichorionic diamniotic twins) have ultrasound scans performed every 4 weeks after 20 weeks. Uncomplicated twin pregnancies with a shared placenta (monochorionic diamniotic twins) have ultrasound scans performed every 2 weeks from 16 weeks. The frequency of ultrasounds may increase if complications are detected.

17.01.2022 The fetal heart beat...so fast!

16.01.2022 Laughing baby @westernimagingforwomen Not really laughing....but babys drink the amniotic fluid a very important process that ensures the gut and kidneys develop normally. The baby will also breathe in the amniotic fluid which helps the lungs develop. #westernimagingforwomen

15.01.2022 Biometry part 3: The femur length @westernimagingforwomen The bone in the thigh is called called the the femur , it is the longest bone in babys body and is measured to help calculate an estimate of fetal weight. The femur length also tells us about how the bones are developing and helps us rule out conditions such as dwarfism. #westernimagingforwomen

14.01.2022 Fetal Well Being part1: The umbilical artery Doppler @westernimagingforwomen As part of a routine scan in the third trimester we assess the blood flow in the umbilical artery. This can tell us about placental function and helps predict risk of growth issues or poor outcomes. #westernimagingforwomen
