25.01.2022 Calochilus. Flowering size plants

25.01.2022 Bonatea speciosa just deflasked.

21.01.2022 Starting to get some good results with Phragmipedium kovachii in flask now. They are still a somewhat slow growing species though.

18.01.2022 Thelymitra crinita as part of a project for a group in WA. While germination was acceptable, we find the result is much better using green pods than dry seed for terrestrials.

17.01.2022 Disa thodei. Great germination on this lot.

17.01.2022 Macodes petola. Such a great grower in flask.

16.01.2022 Sarcochilus serrulatus, one of the many rare plants and flasks that will be available at the Melbourne Orchid Spectacular, this Fri, Sat, Sun. Come along and say hello.

12.01.2022 Some say flasking Corybas is hard. I guess it would be when you lack the right media. W9 with coconut water works really well for many species, like these Corybas unguiculatus. They are making flowering sized tubers and have normal looking leaves. Ignore the accidental Diuris that germinated

10.01.2022 Macodes sanderiana

09.01.2022 Dear All, The Sarcochilus have been very late to flower here at 333 Ackland Hill Road, Coromandel East but they’ve opened in large numbers since last weekend. I’m having an Open day this coming Saturday 23rd November and am trying to reach all members of local clubs so that they can attend if interested and able. Please pass this on to anyone who might be interested but who is not contactable by email.... I will provide the necessaries for a Barbecue on the day. It’s my hope to get club members together who don’t usually or often interact with each other, to show how easy it is to grow Sarcochilus and to sell as many as I can of the plants that I’m not going to keep as breeders. It will be an opportunity for people to obtain plants cheaply to start or add to their collections. I’m hoping that Wednesday’s weather doesn’t affect the flowers too much and expect they will cope well enough. Please see attached document. Cheers, Kevin Western https://westernorchids.com.au//OPEN-DAY-WESTERN-ORCHIDS.pdf

08.01.2022 The first results of our efforts to produce exemplary Sarcochilus falcatus. Both parents produce very large, well shaped flowers that present very well. The leaves are also very attractively shaped.

03.01.2022 One of the more advanced Phragmipedium kovachii seedlings. Surface roots visible.
