20.01.2022 Yesterday we bid a sad farewell to our beloved Practice Manager, Naomi Hill. After ten years of hard work, dedication, love and support, Naomi leaves behind many wonderful memories and a legacy that will be fondly remembered by the WRH Team. We miss her already, but wish her all the very best in her new career in education management.

17.01.2022 7 tips to help ease yourself back into a gym routine: 1. Adequate warm up Skipping, jogging, rower, bike - for 5-10 minutes 1-2 warm-up sets ... 2. Hydrate Before, during and after your work-out 3. Shorter sessions Reduce the sessions to 30-45minutes 4. Cool down Light jog and foam roller, foam roller alone, stretching and rolling/spike ball, sauna/shower/swimming 5. Nutrition You’ve gone from desk to gym Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) needs to be boosted to reflect this ~1000cal/wk+ 6. Rest Put a rest day between 4 sessions - at least. 7. Have fun! Get out there and mix up your training, try something new and support the great local businesses that have done it tough this year! See more

03.01.2022 Lest We Forget.

03.01.2022 A warm welcome to 2021 and a covid-19 update... As at the 4th January: Masks are still required by all people entering the clinic ... Escalated cleaning procedures will remain Temperature checks will return Linen is still removed from all treatment rooms In-Car waiting and patient screening questions will continue To be seen at the clinic you will be required to answer ‘no’ to all the following: 1 Have you returned from travel to NSW or any other DHHS hotspots including Bayside Melbourne or Lakes Entrance? 2 Are you required to self-quarantine for any reason? 3 Are you, or have you been in close contact with anyone awaiting covid test results? 4 Are you experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms? If you answer YES to any of these questions, please call us prior to your appointment so that we can talk about your circumstances and reschedule your appointment. Please note: the above is direct action and recommendations from our governing health authorities as per the latest updates. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

03.01.2022 We’ve heard it before, but is there any science to it? Apparently the best time to ‘learn something new’ is when the brain is in ACQUISITION MODE 10am-2pm and 4pm-10pm. The worst being 4am-7am. Delving into the CIRCADIAN RHYTHM, different hormones are produced during all times of the sleep-wake cycle. These are ones like melatonin, serotonin, dopamine, growth hormone, cortisol, insulin etc.. ... The key message is: The mid-morning tends to be the best for all things memory, consciousness, brain function and some hormone production Try to go to sleep and wake up at the same time each day Limit screen use before bed Reduce amount of natural light in the bedroom Aim for 8 hours sleep a night If you feel like you’re most productive later, then stick to it but maintain a regular sleep schedule Shift workers tend to disrupt the circadian rhythm and has shown to affect regular hormone levels This can be helped by trying to emulate ‘night’ even though it may be the day

03.01.2022 A ‘facet’ (fas-et) joint refers to the joints in the spine. A joint sprain occurs when ligaments are overstretched, much like when we sprain our ankle. Some causes: Rapid turning of the neck Prolonged bending/leaning backwards ... Poor sleep Repetitive movement This leads to significant pain and inflammation in the area when the ligaments and capsule supporting the joint are irritated Pain (especially leaning back and rotating) Reduced range of motion of the spine Muscle guarding and spasm Referred pain These injuries are very common and can cause significant pain and discomfort, but luckily don’t hang around for long if looked after. Speak to us today about how we may assist you with facet joint pain Call 03 9747 0077 / 03 5367 0400 or jump on our website www.westernregionhealth.com.au to book online
