21.01.2022 Today, the Minister for Fisheries Peter Tinley AM, Fisheries WA and Western Rock Lobster conducted a joint media announcement to illustrate the introduction of the new Back of Boat (BOB) lobster sales mechanism. #BOBlobsters will allow fishers to land up to 100 lobsters per trip to sell directly to local restaurants, seafood retailers, the general public and tourists. 21.01.2022 Western rock lobster fishermen are on a mission to offer the freshest crays possible to the WA community. Back of Boat Lobsters sales mean our local commercial fishers have the opportunity to sell their catch directly to the public throughout the year, and over the next few weeks is as good a time as any as we prepare for the Easter break. Third generation crayfisherman Peter Vinci is one of the many fishers bringing in his catch and offering it to the locals in Fremantle.... 18.01.2022 Last week, Josh Wilson MP visited the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour to get some #westernrocklobsters from one of our local fishers straight off the boat. Increasing availability and accessibility of western rock lobster for domestic consumption in WA is at the heart of the Back of Boat Lobsters mechanism. Thanks to a decade-long campaign by local fishermen to change legislation, Western Australians can now buy freshly-caught live lobster directly from the source. ... 16.01.2022 Western rock lobsters will be readily available for Western Australians to enjoy as local supply is boosted to the public and hospitality industry through back ...of boat sales. The McGowan Government has amended legislation to allow commercial rock lobster fishers to sell up to 100 lobsters per day directly from the back of boat to supply local restaurants, fresh fish retailers and the public. This is one of several changes sought by the peak industry body, Western Rock Lobster, in response to the dramatic decline in export demand for western rock lobster as a result of COVID-19.

12.01.2022 The lunar phase has great impact on the behaviour of our lobsters and fishing success. You will hear many lobstermen who avoid fishing during the full moon period, especially in the reds part of the fishery. This is because the bright conditions cause lobsters to seek shelter away from predators. When it is in the full moon phase, rock lobsters tend not to stray far from the reef due to the extra light making them more visible and vulnerable.
