04.01.2022 #UPDATE (12:12pm): Lifesavers have reopened Cottesloe Beach. #EARLIER: Cottesloe beach was closed after a great white shark was spotted circling offshore this m...orning. DPIRD has also issued a SHARK WARNING for Perth beaches following multiple detections of a tiger shark overnight and the great white sighting this morning. It said a tiger shark was detected on multiple occasions overnight between Scarborough and Leighton beaches, while the Surf Life Saving WA helicopter first reported the white shark just after 9.30am about 300 metres offshore of North Cottesloe Beach. It was sighted again half an hour later about 100 metres closer to the beach. "It is possible that these sightings and detections may increase the likelihood of encountering a shark in this area," DPIRD said. "To reduce the threat to people, North Cottesloe Beach has now been closed." WHAT TO DO: Take additional caution along Perth metropolitan beaches. Adhere to beach closures advised by Rangers, Parks and Wildlife Service officers or Surf Life Saving WA. Use your sea sense and stay informed by checking for shark activity on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or Surf Life Saving WA’s Twitter feed. If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600.
