19.01.2022 HUMANS OF THE SOUTHWEST: I was 40-years-old when we formed the committee at the historical society and Im 82 now and theres no point of me staying home waiting to fall off the perch so might as well be here dong the photos and putting names to what I can remember and I love talking to different people. Ive been a foundation member since 1973, one night I went home and told my wife that we had a committee meeting when this place used to be a boarding house and the shearer...s used to camp around the place. The current owner said she was going to retire and said we could buy the place for $6,000 as long as we guaranteed to preserve tit so we bought it. I told my wife that I just stood to be one of the guarantors and she called me a mad bugger. We battled on for years and it was a long time before we could get the joint as a paying place. We worked and worked to derive revenue like raffles, not like today where theres all these grants. If I didnt come down here seven days a week, the place wouldnt be running. Its a reason for me to get out of bed in the mornings, theres no point lying in bed wondering if the day is the day. I do a lot of research down here and look at old photos and because Ive been here for 70-odd years I can recognise a lot of people. See more
