25.01.2022 In 2015, the NSW Government committed $20 million to establish an Aboriginal Centre for Excellence in Western Sydney to support one of the NSW Governments key aims; to ensure Aboriginal people, their families and communities are at the forefront of economic development in Western Sydney. Kimberwalli is this commitment realised! Kimberwalli, meaning many stars in the Darug language, was chosen to honour Aboriginal language and recognise the role of stars in Aboriginal story...telling and learning, navigating country and following lore to sustain culture and well-being. This name also recognizes young Aboriginal peoples ability to be the stars of their own destiny. Kimberwalli is a unique initiative to support young Aboriginal people in Western Sydney to transition from school to education and/or further employment. Kimberwalli will walk alongside young Aboriginal people as they navigate their future. Keep an eye out for Kimberwallis official launch later this year! Join us at 2pm, Wednesday as our host, Tom, Manager Policy and Programs, chats with Kimberwalli Partnerships Officer at Aboriginal Affairs, Blake Tatafu, on all things children and young people! 16.01.2022 Introducing our first panelists for The Second Chances Through Social Enterprise Live Stream! Joe grew up in the Western Sydney suburbs and was expelled from every school that he attended. Being more street smart than book smart he was involved in organised from a yearly age and by the time he was 21, Joe was sentenced to 13 years in prison for directing a criminal enterprise. During his sentence Joe met a billionaire accountant cellmate who became his first positive mentor w...ho challenged his perception and attitudinal outlook on life. Not only did he learn accounting every day but taught him the value of education and self-worth. Today instead of directing a criminal enterprise Joe is the director and founder of a social enterprise with the mission to reduce recidivism in Australia and to coach and mentor former inmates to become leaders and outstanding members of society. Confit is an idea that started from a prison cell, creating a platform to bridge the social gap between former inmates and the wider community through fitness. Joe strives to create second chances by breaking down societies pre-conceived notions of criminal stereotypes through a human centred approach. ConFit was able to gain the support of Centre for Social Impact at UNSW, becoming a case study for an MBA program helping to formulate what ConFit is today, a fitness social enterprise. Joe is also currently a 3rd year student at UNSW studying a Bachelor degree in Marketing and Management. He is also a catalyst for recidivism reduction and an activist to promote education for positive change.
