11.01.2022 Our no reserve auction in Epping started with a bid of just $20! The home listed with agent Catherine Murphy went to auction with Damien Cooley from Cooley Auc...tions. It was an alluring prospect for house hunters accustomed to the Sydney norm of pressure cooker auctions a family home going under the hammer with no reserve. The rare offer meant the home could theoretically sell for just $1 if it was the only bid placed. The prospect of a bargain attracted 65 bidders who lined up in the cold early morning Saturday to register for the auction. But any chance of a low price evaporated when the opening bid of $20 was followed by an increase to $50,000 and then $1m. The four-bedroom house on Third Ave eventually sold under the hammer for $1.871m one of the highest prices recorded in the Epping area over recent months. Comparable homes in the nearby area had recently sold around the $1.5m mark. Seller Steve Hantos said he was surprised by the price but felt uncomfortable with how high it was. The family of six will instead be using the unexpected windfall from the auction to make charitable donations. Each of us is going to pick a charity, Mr Hantos said, adding they had received multiple letters from struggling families after the home was listed without a reserve. For the final round of judging, the backyard and pool, the judges we...re completely stunned by what was in front of them. "My mind is blown," Darren said. Neale even added, "I would like to use an expletive that I probably can't use on national television." "To deliver this much amenity and style and value this is a selling point," Darren added. "This is something that you would walk down that hallway and end up here as a buyer and just go, 'I want it. I want this'." But nothing compared to what they had delivered in the pool area. "Oh my Lord! That is such a beautiful shot. It's a magazine cover," Darren said. Sarah and George paid tribute to Brighton's iconic beach boxes with the artwork on the wall of the cabana. The tile choice was another big tick too. "I love the fact that we've got tiles in here that we don't usually expect. You look and this and you think, 'No, I wouldn't put that in a pool.'
