25.01.2022 Sonnet 119 read beautifully as always by Patrick Stewart who appears to be sporting some facial hair these past few readings. Has anyone else noticed?

25.01.2022 We shared this with you all back in April but it is just too good not to share again. Happy Music Monday everyone. Gippslands music community came together with the Mass Online Band to create this incredible project during lockdown in April with a rendition of The INXS classic Never Tear Us Apart. Congratulations to the musicians who took part in a relatively unplanned community project in order to bring us all closer through the magic of music.... 24.01.2022 Don't mind if we do!
24.01.2022 Journey back to the Jurassic (well, 2015), when dinosaurs invaded West Gippsland Arts Centre. Here, WGAC's answer to Jeff Goldblum, Rob "Life. Uh... finds a way" Robson (on the right!) tames a terrifying titan that was threatening to eat his salad sandwich, earning Rob the nickname of 'The Bronto Whisperer'. Soon after, a vicious velociraptor leapt from the shadows, sending everyone packing. The petrifying puppets were soon wrangled into their pens and things returned to normal... although, we suspect one of the 'raptors may still be lurking under the stage somewhere! Who knows... you may see it again one day in the future... #ThrowbackThursday #WGAC
23.01.2022 Happy sunny Monday everyone This is the view from my (home) office window today. What is it like where you are? Kellie

22.01.2022 A Thursday evening treat for you: Shakespeare's RICHARD II - from The Shows Must Go On. Deborah Warner’s staging of Richard II with Fiona Shaw as the king stirred up a significant critical controversy when it was presented in 1995 at the National Theatre, and then later in Salzburg and Paris. Among those who recognised its originality and strengths was the critic Paul Taylor who praised the ‘gripping, lucidly felt production’ and Fiona Shaw’s ‘dazzlingly disconcerting delibe...rately uncomfortable, compelling performance.’ For the screen version, Deborah Warner and production designer Hildegard Bechtler re-imagined Richard II as an innovative drama that was shot over a fortnight using film techniques. Playing alongside Fiona Shaw is a distinguished cast including Donald Sinden (Duke of York), Richard Bremmer (Henry Bolingbroke), Julian Rhind-Tutt (Duke of Aumerle), Kevin McKidd (Harry Percy) and Paola Dionisotti (Duchess of York). https://youtu.be/0Tzf3FZYqKM

And theres always one or two kids for whom a light bulb flicks on and they realise they might take up a career in the performing arts, either on the performance side or the production side. We get to see the next generation of artists every day." What about you? What do you love our West Gippsland Arts Centre?

18.01.2022 Presented in association with Bell Shakespeare and part of the Sydney Opera House Digital Season, is this special performance from John Bell AO. Bell founded Bell Shakespeare 30 years ago based on his belief that all Australians should have access to the works of Shakespeare in performance. In an excerpt from One Man In His Time, John shares his reflections on the timeless and poetic language of Shakespeares plays and his lifetime spent performing and directing them.... This is a fascinating look into the enduring power of language and theatre.

13.01.2022 Something pretty special for your theatre thirst for today: 'BEING SHAKESPEARE' with Simon Callow - FULL SHOW - A unique exploration of the life of The Bard in a live performance. Featuring a tour de force performance from Simon Callow, Being Shakespeare is a one-man show about the life and work of the world’s greatest playwright.... Written by the renowned scholar Jonathan Bate, and taking its cue from Jacques’ famous ‘Seven Ages of Man’ speech in As You Like It, the drama traces Shakespeare’s life from his birth in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564 to his burial there fifty-two years later. Weaving together this story with extracts from many of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, Simon Callow presents a vivid and very human portrait of the man and of the Elizabethan world in which he lived. Recorded before an audience during the play’s triumphant London run, Being Shakespeare is both a wonderful introduction to the author and a richly nuanced, funny and fascinating study for those who already love his plays.

09.01.2022 Who's this fresh faced young fella? It's our Technical Coordinator Jayson, ready for action in the old sound booth at the rear of the theatre back in 2006. 09.01.2022 "New animated film released to remind people of the magic of live theatre." (Story from Whatsonstage.com) A new animated film has been released to remind audiences of the magic of theatre. While a small portion of venues have found ways to reopen in a viable fashion with socially distanced audiences, the majority of spaces have been closed since March.... Created by agency Nucco Brain and West End veterans Thomas Coles and Zoe Rainey, the piece is especially animated by the Nucco Brain team, with composition by Patrick Neil Doyle and mixing and sound design by Paul Gatehouse. Entitled The Applause, the piece is encouraging people to donate and support local venues. You can watch it below. Rainey, said: "I was heartbroken at the thought of some theatres not surviving this terrible time and I wanted to tell a story to inspire people to come together and help save vulnerable theatres so we can all experience the wonderfully unique intimacy of live theatre and applause again when this is all over. "Thomas and I wanted to gift this film to the theatre industry as a sign of hope and to help us all believe that we will return and that what theatre stands for in a community, by bringing people together, will heal us. We need theatre more than ever after this very difficult period. And with Christmas approaching, a theatre ticket for 2021 could give people something to look forward to." https://youtu.be/kQDygteyPYk

05.01.2022 A new master plan for the Baw Baw Civic Precinct is on the way and Council want the community to be involved in refining the draft design. Highlights of th...e draft master plan include the potential for a new regional library co-located with other facilities to create a significant community asset, as well as improving connectivity between the Civic Precinct and the town centre to create a welcoming and pedestrian focused ‘front door’ to the precinct with expanded West Gippsland Art Centre forecourt. The draft design was endorsed by Council at its meeting on 16 December, setting community consultation dates for early in the new year. A range of opportunities will be available for the community to participate in, including pop-up stalls and information sessions. Community members will also be able to provide their feedback online at Council's website. Consultation will officially open from 7 January to 5 February 2021. 03.01.2022 We’re going orange for respect, for equality and to call out violence against women. We’ve joined the Respect Victoria 16 Days of Activism campaign to help our ...community raise awareness of the drivers of family violence and show you how we can all help prevent them by showing respect. In Australia, on average one woman is murdered by a current or former partner each week, and one in two women have experienced sexual harassment. Over the next 16 days we want you join us in going orange to help raise awareness for this important issue. Download the resource kit from https://www.respectvictoria.vic.gov.au/16-days-activism-2020 and turn your profile, your next zoom meeting or selfie orange. We're lighting up the West Gippsland Arts Centre in orange for the campaign, and you'll see plenty more orange about town too. It’s time to reflect as a community and tackle inequality, discrimination and marginalisation that lead to gender-based violence, it’s time to call it out.
